New MBOX...

I honestly still don't understand how they can justify charging so much for so little. I've been on a sword's edge trying to decide whether to go the ProTools route at home or not, and I'm continuously alienated by Digidesign's blatant abuse of their stature within the industry.

I don't know. I always see folks complaining about the cost of protools and then I see a thread where the majority of the forum (the ones not using protools) are using Nuendo (a program that costs $2000 US) or Cubase SE (a program that costs $600 US).
In comparison, I hardly consider $800 MSRP for a software/hardware package to be a rip off unless you consider paying for software to be a rip off.

There are plenty of other valid arugements for and against digidesign that I don't want to get into. And I would agree that there are better hardware choices if you don't want to run protools. But, my point is that whenever people compare protools packages to other stuff they tend to view the software as valueless and subsequently view the hardware as way overpriced. You do pay something of a premium to run the most ubiquitous software but it isn't as obscene as folks make it out to be.
