Not impressed at all upon first listen. Nothing memorable at all. Just finished listening to it and I already forgot what it sounds like.

It sounds as good as anything on Death Magnetic to me. Mind you I liked only about half of DM. This sounds like the better stuff on the last album. The solo is really boring at the start before it gets cool towards to the end. They should have cut the beginning part cause it just sounds crap. The riffing is pretty groovy and cool. Looks like we waited 7-8 years just to get DM part 2 lol.

It's hard to really tell due to the recording being low quality. With that said, it reminds of something from Kill Em' All judging from this clip. I know that's probably blasphemy, but I'm not a huge fan of that album. I'm a huge fan of everything from RTL through the Black Album. I hated everything from Load to St. Anger. I actually enjoy Death Magnetic though.

It needs to go through the rigors of revision, which I'm sure it will when it officially releases in another year or so. Metallica are typically pretty meticulous about the production aspect so I'm certain this will sound very different in the end.

Oh, and where do I insert my token jab about how I only like their stuff up to the Black Album but nothing on or after that? Because I'm fairly certain nobody heard anyone else echo such a sentiment. We wouldn't want my valued injection of music elitism to go unnoticed after all.

Well, I'm in that camp, with the exception going to Death Magnetic. I like that one quite a bit. Load/Re Load had their moments, but that's as far as it goes. If you're in love with those releases after the black album, then congratulations. You're "open mind" doesn't go unrecognized. Is that the pat on the back you're fishing for?
