Hey guys,

I've been a stalker on these boards for a long time now and this is the first time I've ever contributed anything. I've never really shared my mixes with anyone who knows what they're talking about mostly because I've never known anyone who knew what they were talking about. Let me know what you think.

Thanks man. I was starting to think that too.
It's got a hi pass filter at about 71 on it and a dash of eq.
i think i pulled down some at 200 and boosted a tiny bit at 50.
i've got about 4db of compression on it as well.

Nicely done. I'm only using my headphones on my laptop, but it sounds like the snare could also use a teeeeeeny bit of reverb, but that could just be my taste. 1:13 is pretty cool in my opinion. How do you feel about the Slate cymbals?

Sounds pretty good so far. The guitars could come up a tiiiiiiny bit, and the kick could definitely go down some. What kind of processing are you running on that kick, if I may ask?

+1

also, floor tom sounds like it needs just a little more fullness. after you fix those suggestions up a little, should sound pretty solid. keep on keepin' on.

wow thanks so much guys.
It's nice to hear that I'm actually doing something right. haha
there is some verb on the snare but there could be more.
i just didn't wanna overdue it.
i'm alright with the slate cymbals. they aren't anything to write home about.
but they sound better then the broke ass cymbals the drummer had. haha.
again thanks so much for the help.

I'd say bring up the verb on the snare a little bit, maybe bring the volume up just a tiny bit too, see how it sits with the mix. You want the snare to give a good pop on top of everything, but not hear something like "kick kick SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAREEEEEEEEEEEEEE kick kick", you dig? Cymbals are a bitch, man. Until I get my hands on some mics I'm using some heavily processed addictive drums cymbals, you may want to give those a go around. For your first mix shared on this board you done good.

Pretty nice sounding mix many.

A few things though.
The clean vocals seem to be abit far back in the mix.
Also, I would have done the leads panned in the middle or further in when the cleans are there.
It sounds odd having the leads only on one side.
Distracting from the clean vocals and makes it seem empty on one side.

Still a cool mix though.

haha for sure man. i love your example.
i'll definetly give that a go tomorrow.
they really are. i've got some decent mics.
i just need to get someone over here with some decent cymbals
and then I'll try a go at making some of my own samples.
i'll look into those addictive drum cymbals too.
what exactly would you recommend?

@Ionei
yeah for sure man. i was mixing it kinda like Lower Definition's record.
they rarely have more then two guitars going at a time.
but i know what you mean. i did that for them in the other song we recorded.

See how it goes with the snare, the verb might add too much 'whoof' to the mix when the volume's turned up, but you most likely have better processing equipment than me. hahaha. If I'd recommend anything I'd recommend making sure the drummer has good cymbals with him/her, or have some cymbals ready at your place. What those cymbals might be in terms of brand/size etc. is your/the drummer's taste. Addictive Drums does a pretty decent job once you get some processing going. My complaint is that there are hardly any cymbal samples out there that were recorded nice and close and get some of that stick tip in there, but that's just my personal taste.

Yeah for sure. i'll definetly see how it turns out.
if anything bring the kick down will bring out the snare some more.
yeah if i can ever make enough money i'd replace the trashed cymbals i have. haha
alright good to know. i'll do some research into there cymbals too.

Sturgis has some good cymbal samples out on his website, you may wanna check those out too. I haven't had experience with them but I'm waiting until he releases all kinds of 'em, I'd rather not buy one pack and have him put out more that I like and get fucked financially.

yeah i've been tracking his stuff.
i've got the first snare and toms he released.
the problem is i need the full version of Kontakt
so i can use the cymbals. but i love some of the sets he's got up.

Nice ton man, can you share your set-up please ?
Just a bit less kick and voice and it would sound just like actual Metalcore standard !

wow thanks so much. all the drums are Steven Slate.
the drummer played live and i programmed what he actually played.
the kick specifically is Kick 10.
i posted my processing on it earlier in the thread.
