Haha, You think I support the war too? You are sadly mistaken...
Look, the city is built BELOW SEA LEVEL. It is right in hurricane path. It is going to flood again. That is a given. Be it from shit breaking, or just plain ocean levels rising, it is going to flood again. I do not think it should be rebuilt just so we have to rebuild it in another 10 years. Just like the war, its a waste of money for a useless outcome.
I see what you're saying, and I must say that I'm really flattered that you guys have spoken about when I'm not here.
I guess my opinions carry some weight if it makes people think of me,
.
Yes, it is JUST my opinion, but I don't think that we should just say "fuck it" because it's below sea level. I'm sure New Orleans isn't the only city in the U.S. below sea level, although I don't have the facts to back that up. That's just a guess. However...
California is sitting right on top of one of the biggest fault lines in the world, and EVERY YEAR they have earthquakes that cost millions to the state and federal government. I guess the next time they have an earthquake that kills thousands of people like they had in the early 1900's, we'll just say "fuck 'em".
New Orleans is just about the only city in the entire nation of the United States of America that has any shred of culture left from the past. I'm not saying it's the oldest or anything, because you can go to St. Augustine and see some really historic stuff, what I'm saying is that it's one of the few places in the US that still prides itself on it's cultural history. Fuck, they speak an entirely
different language down there, literally. It's the only city that gives you an alternative to the endless miles of McDonald's, strip malls, and movie theater superplexes that dot every major city in the US. There's an alternative to big buildings in New Orleans. It's the only city left in the US with soul and an actual identity...an identity NOT formed by pop culture, but instead history. The saddest part about New Orleans is that it is losing it's cultural pride and history to tourism. College kids come in droves one month a year to get drunk, flash tits for stupid plastic beads, and make a mockery of what Mardi Gras really is. The last time I was there was 2004 when I came to visit family, in AUGUST, and the number of annoying college kids literally made me sick. It was like a big fuckin' frat party. I left and never went back.
Now, as far as the international aid thing, here's my two bits:
I think it's degrading and a travesty that the most powerful nation in the world cannot help it's own people due to the fact that our leaders' noses are so far up the asses of nations who hate us that they can't see the problems we have on the homefront.
On the other hand, it'll be really nice to see some of these fuckholes we've been giving money to hand over fist all of these years finally do something for us. That gigantic joke of a committee called the UN will have to give some of our money back to us, looks like, since we pay for 75% of their budget anyway, and I think it's fitting. We give billions of dollars a year in aid to countries who would rather spit in our face and WHO DO spit in our face, only to stick out their hand again for more money. And our leaders, in their infinite wisdom, allow this to continue year after year after year. The last time I checked, we are THE fattest, one of the dumbest, one of the laziest, the richest, and one of the most spoiled countries on the face of the earth. We have a lot of problems and no one seems to care as long as we can make a show of force with "the mother of all alliances" with countries like Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, Morocco, and many other countries that wield so much influence and power of the globe as these countries do to fight bogus wars.
So I'm fucking happy as a priest on a playground that NOLA called for international help, and you know what? I HOPE THE FUCKING RUSSIANS GIVE US TONS OF MONEY. I hope this experience humiliates the United States in front of the entire world so finally, FINALLY people can see how hypocritical it is to go around telling other people how to live their lives when we can't even help our own people with basic things like, oh, FOOD, WATER, AND SHELTER!!!! For the dumbasses who stayed in New Orleans, it's their own fault they died or got stuck. They should've left when we told them to. The other people who have nothing to go back to are the ones who need the most help, and I hope all the countries that we've had tensions with at one time or another give us tons of money to keep us in their debt and put us in our place. It's about time we start taking from the countries we've been giving to, and this time it won't be oil.
And if you think it's all because of one man, think again. Bush is a fuckwit, that's for sure, but it's not going to get any better just because we put a fuckwit with a different point of view on the opposite side of the aisle in office. It will start with the people, and this experience I think will open people's eyes to see just how vulnerable we are right now and shut us up for a while.
