New Savage Circus

sounds cool, but I only have one question regarding Savage Circus.

Wasn't this suppose to be Thomen Stauch's baby? Where the hell is he now? I probably missed that memo - but I've always wondered why he decided to up and leave SC if that was meant to be his creative outlet after leaving Blind Guardian

No, and he was kicked out.

then....wtf is this about?

The idea behind the band was spawned by Thomen Stauch as he was having trouble seeing his new compositions fit into the direction his former band Blind Guardian was taking. Discussing this with old friend Piet Sielck (Iron Savior), Thomen introduced the idea of forming a band following the style these new songs had.

awesome. it'd be good to know what the 'real deal' is after hearing one thing for so long. It was kinda odd to me that the person that I thought was suppose to be responsible for that whole band was no longer involved with it anyways.

HELL YES NEW SAVAGE CIRCUS

this is the only band that has ever gotten daily play from me besides edguy.

I<3SC

Sounds good, but then again anything Jens is in is likely to sound good.

If the band didn't see fit to give any rationale for his dismissal, we should leave it at that.

I mean with how it was formed. I thought I heard that it wasn't formed as Stauch's band (Piet had the idea to do it before Stauch came on board?), but was advertised as such.

As far as I know it was Thomen's baby and he caled Piet in. Let's remember that Thomen played drums in Iron Savior debut album. Sadly by the time they played at PPVII Thomen was ill, and then they kicked him out.

I got the debut but still believe is just a bad clone of mid-era Blin Guardian. No interested at all on this new release with or without Thomen, one was enough.

This new song is great stuff. Okay fine so its a Blind Guardian clone. Well Piet performed on a few BG albums so who cares. And you can disagree, but Terrana is a better drummer than Stauch. Great looking forward to getting this album.

Thomen formed SC as a new creative band after he quit Blind Guardian, which was supposed to sound more like old school BG. After Dreamland Manor, he was asked to leave Savage Circus. Blind Guardian forum and band drama ensued for a time, and then it was over. Nothing remarkable. SC continues to be a side project for most of the band members, if I remember correctly.

Well regardless...I wish I could have seen Thomen live before whatever happened, happened. I missed the PPUSA that BG played due to a competition I was a part of and couldn't back out on for any reason other than possibly a family emergency or hospitalization.

The new stuff sounds solid though. looking forward to hearing the rest.

I've seen BG with both Thomen and Frederik, and while Thomen is a pretty amazing drummer, Frederik replaced him without a problem, and can perform at or above Thomen's level. But, it's a copy of Thomen's style, which I love.

New SC sounds badass. Bout time we got some new stuff!

Yeah, SC started as a side-project for Thomen and Piet to make music that sounded like old BG. He parted ways with BG during that side-project, so it became his main band.

When SC toured, Thomen had a nervous breakdown or something beforehand so Thomas Nack stepped in to do the drums for that tour (this was also why Thomen didn't come to ProgPower with SC). After Thomen got over that, they did another tour with Circle II Circle in Europe, but that was cut short because Thomen was having problems again. In the end, the rest of the band decided it would be best to let Thomen go and take care of his issues so they could carry on.

That's the basic gist of it, anyway.

I wish the best for Thomen "The Omen." Regardless of his involvement in any band, his contributions to the world of power metal will never be forgotten.
