Has anyone listened to this album? I've had the Mp3's for a while, and I am really getting into this. It's pretty mellow for the most part, but sounds kinda overthetop and beatlish at a lot of points. But the music is really good! The heavy riffs are actually surpirisingly good, and Daniels vocals have gotten incredible! Great harmonies, and lots of layers, and awesome production. You truly have to respect how far they have evolved from their first album. I actually respect this album enough that I think I'll probably head out and buy it. It's a shame they can't tour because of his arthritis, I hope they don't call it quits. Freakshow was also a great album. I think if somehow despite his ailment, he can't get out an album of heavy riffs, we'll all be pleasantly surprised.

Anyone agree?

:puke:

But have you listened to the new one?I had no interest in the first or third release by them, but this one is pretty damn interesting. Though I am sure some will not like this at all, but given the variety of tastes here, I'm sure some will like it.

I think that's so sad.
I haven't heard anything off the new one though...

Yeah, it's just not right. It seems tragedy strikes people who don't deserve it. I hope it means he can still write, and maybe get a live guitarist to fill his spot. Still young too, with so much potential...

Manes: The new one is called Diorama. I only heard a few tunes on Neon Ballroom, but they never interested me. Maybe I'll have to check that out some time as well. Though this new one has a lot of orchestration, and at times seems kinda-avant-garde for a rock band. They stray from your average three chord rock, and use some less than conventional time signatures just enough. Though for some reason it doesn't sound like an album that the general public will will be crawling over.

I'm extremely curious about the new album...

Neon Ballroom was kinda like a lost mix, a bad combination of rock and experimentation, and it just didn't seem to work, and the year 2000 song was just awful..

But I'm still very curious about the new one.. I didn't relize that people cared about silverchair outside australia, let alone in this forum!

I used to be really into these guys for their first couple of albums, Freak Show being my favorite. Neon Ballroom was complete shit in my opinion, but I think I will check out some of this stuff. It seems that a lot of big alternative bands that used to be big are doing a lot of experimentation lately, it is really cool, mainstream musics loss.

Oh it's good, Sadistik!

It definately lives up to 'Nattestid...'
If you liked the previous offering, you should like this one as well...

:Smokedev:

I haven't listened to them for a while. I got Freakshow when it came out, but haven't touched them for years now. I still like their songs like Cemetary, but I just don't listen to them any more...

The new album rocks! Well.. Not really. But you have to admire one thing about Silverchair, their progression in style in a band is almost unparralelled in most musical circles. Consisdering that they recorder their first album in high school... and it was good solid modern punk/heavy metal, then they went to the more pop/punk direction with freakshow, then the somewhat avante-gard stuff with neonballroom... and finally this, 'Diorama' which is kinda hard to explain... I'd have to say this is the first complete 'Happy Metal' which I've ever heard.

They certainly aren't my favourite band in the Metal Scene, but I'd have to say what they DO do, is done very well.

Oh, and on another note, while the selected singles off the new album are good, skip them and go looking for a song called 'Across The Night'... Prolly the best off the album (Though they're all fairly similar)

maybe if their drummer could do something more than a basic rock beat...

Daniel Johns has a lot of artistic vision and creativeness it seems, unfortunately the other members seem to be no better than what they were in high school. He should start a side project, get a real drummer and get some other great musicians to work with.

Even from Neon Ballroom, "Emotion Sickness" was a pretty cool song, and why? because it had that piano guy, who took daniel johns stuff and added his brilliance to it.

He's still held back by these things, and probably also by the pursuit for money since he got introduced to the fame/fortune thing before he probably had time to realise it wasnt important. Thats why i hope for a side project from him, something where he doesnt care about the success and isnt limited by anything.

GET A NEW DRUMMER DANIEL!

... and by comparison, do you realize how young Ihsahn and Samoth were when they recorded In the Nightside Eclipse?

To be honest Jim, I have absolutely no idea how young Ihsahn and Samoth were at the time, though I'm assuming from your reply that they were somewhat younger. Of course with someone like yourself having such an extensive knowledge of the music scene, it's to be expected that you can sight at least one example of a younger debut band..... What I was trying to say is that simply THEY WERE YOUNG when they started out. Most people thier age are arsing around in the garage doing cover songs or making up thier own stuff, but these guys got signed and published (for want of a better word) at this time.

P.S. Sorry if I took your somewhat enigmatic reply the wrong way Jim.
