I've recorded mostly hip-hop stuff up until now, but my friend's son wanted to me to record his band so I rented some equipment and got it done. I'm not expecting to be able to have a masterful sounding song in one of my first attempts, but I was hoping someone could listen to where I have the mix now and give me some criticisms and advice. I feel like it gets muddy in the lows and low-mids, but I've tried analyzing, cutting and boosting of the bass, kick, and guitars without much success. Maybe my kick is too boomy? I feel like the guitars sound a little hollow, but that's also kind of how his guitar sounds, as he's playing a Strat through an old Fender with Blues distortion for this type of music, but I'm sure I could improve how they sound in the mix. I posted 3 mixes of one of the songs. One with everything but vocals, one with only bass and drums, and one with only guitar and drums if that helps anyone see where my problems may be. This is just something I'm doing for free for the kids and I'm using it as a learning experience myself. I've searched all through the forums here and tried many things, most of which helped me a lot, but I obviously stilll need some tweaks. Anyone's time and advice is greatly appreciated.
