New Wave/Post-Punk/Goth....that's right, I said goth.

I can't say that I like this sort of music. It all seems very popish by my standards and much of it is marred by horrendous vocal performances. I have "Pornography" by The Cure and am tempted to smash it to bits everytime I try to listen to it. It's ridiculous, quite frankly. Joy Division is all right for this sort of thing, I suppose. It does absolutely nothing for me, though, and it's actually quite dancy. For pop music, it is listenable. I also tried to listen to the first Christian Death album, which is a "deathrock" classic and I found that to be unbearable. The vocalist, Rozz(Williams?), sounds like a transexual and I thought this before I became aware that he basically was one. I have heard a few songs by a deathrock group called The Mighty Sphincter and I remember them being okay. I'm sorry I can't offer more than that because I never had a chance to scrutinize them to any degree. I think I might try to download the album. I've heard Minimal Man's "The Shroud Of" and there were some good songs on it. It's adequately despondent most of the time, the vocalist sounds as though he's under the influence of opium, there are some very jagged riffs. It's not much like The Cure and for that I am grateful.

Maybe the problem is that I own the Thergothon album and demo which really is depressing and dark, and this renders mopey, gothic faggotry unnecessary. I will have to mull that over some...

Well I only discovered goth about a year ago and I realy like the "modern goth" bands that I know like Nightwish or Evanesence,Within Temptation, Elis, Angelzoom, Epica, Lunatica, Darmoon, Moonspell, Eeriness...

I don't think that Moonspell is gothic music. I think it's more BM.

Gothic rock and darkwave is one of my favorite genres (bet you couldn't tell from my icon ;) ). Some great current bands playing gothic rock music are Bella Morte, Empire Hideous, Faith & the Muse, and The Last Dance. I recommend them highly to anyone who already likes gothic music, or someone new just wanting to hear what the genre is about. Since all of those bands are guitar-oriented, I think they might appeal to metal fans interested in hearing something a little different.
If you like that, you'd probably like the band I tour with called Bozo Porno Circus. We played with Bella Morte @ the Vamp Ball in New Orleans Oct.29 '04. Check out www.mk-magazine.com. I'm the submissive one on the BPC pics. :headbang:
