 hEY omnipotent bob, were you there??? i decided to hit canes instead of anaheim...not alot of people there, which was cool...I was wearing a blue shirt that said "NO REALLY...WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOUR FACE???"
got there just as exumed was finishing up, so I got to see all of vio-lences set. great energy but i still HATE the vocals, always have, always will.
as soon as the tech taped the set list up, i went up to check it out...damn this was going to be killer! then they went and added a song that has a special meaning to me, besides just a favorite...THE PREACHER!!! (my username back in 99-00 on this board...) they never play this from what i've read and heard, it was so awesome!!! here is the set list in NO order:

from THE LEGACY..."over the wall" and "burnt offerings"
from THE NEW ORDER..."eerie inhabitants", "trial by fire", "into the pit", "disciples of the watch", and "the preacher"
from LOW..."low", "dog faced gods", and "chasing fear" (this last one was a great addition! I can't believe they picked it since it and "all i could bleed" are my favorites from LOW...man did it kill live!!!
and from THE GATHERING..."dnr", "down for life", "true beliver", and "3 days in darkness" which was also a pleasant surprise and sounded great!
now i'm no musician, so if there were any technical mishaps I didn't notice...it was a killer show, especially since they played THE PREACHER, crap that was the best!
I hung around afterwards, and chatted with the guys. Chuck told me between borrowed bong-hits outside the bus that they are writing hard right now on the album and hope to have it to us by summer...so keep your horns crossed. I also asked him how often he checks the forum here, and he said not too much, because alot of times there's too much drama, and i assume hes refering to the big flame-wars a while back. I told him I agreed totally, but he did say his wife checks the forum "every day..." so listen up all you lame-asses, if that's not enough motivation i don't know what would be. we need to keep this forum a place that the big guy will want to check in on and be proud of what his fans post, period! I also asked about the content of the new disc, he said very similar to THE GATHERING. I told him i was hoping for 5 or 6 barn-burners like dnr/legions of the dead/fall of sipledome, with only three mid-paced chuggers, and maybe a couple of instrumentals. just a bit more of a thrash-fest than the previous cd, to remind the TERROR2000'S and DIMENSIONZEROS of the world where the hell they learned to tear it up from. he laughed and said that it was going to be fast, but still with plenty of Eric's trademark rythyms and melodies.
Eric was listening to some tunes in a truck most of this time, but i caught him in time to snap a self-taken picture with him and tell him I couldn't wait for the new material, and to make it a feast of thrash, again, to remind the new-age thrashers who the boss is. get this, he laughed it off as no big deal and referred to dimension zero and terror 2000 as "kinder-metal". now while i totally LOVE these two bands, I know our guys are better, wiser, and more talented. Also, that statement is hella-funny, AND I think prophetic about how good this new music will be.
then the guys took off to the "silver dragon", a bar someplace off the 805. what a night! and they'll be back in a month of so, Chuck said he thought maybe Super Bowl weekend. (damn, I blew my wad on this ticket, I'm so poor i can't afford to go to that show, hopefully they'll be back later in the summer. unless i could get a "mercy" guest-pass from the band so their #1 fan could see them again...please? as you can see, I'm not above begging when it comes to TestAmenT.)
well, i better wrap it up. the only thing i might mention is for the guys to limit the chemicals the guy opening and closing the bus doors inhales/injects/ etc. he was SO wasted i couldn't believe he was able to find the door, much less open it..hahahahahaha!!! he would just stare out into the ocean, and someone would be walking up, and i thought "no way does he see them!" but sure enough, just as they got to the door, he's swing it open...must have lots of practice operating under the influence.
thanks guys, for a killer show! it was so cool spending NEW YEARS with you, let's do it again soon!
dnr.

I thought that the San Diego "Canes" gig got cancelled as well???? WTF? I even called and they said it was cancelled. If this is true , and the show really did happen, how come no one from this board mentioned it? I was gonna go to San Diego but even on Ticketmaster's site it said that the show was postponed.........

I was there. It fuckn ruled :headbang:
I met Deadly Embrace and Metal4Mom and Metal Gathering :headbang:
I got a cool pic of Metal Gathering on stage w/ chuck. Hopefully they all come out. I'll post em as soon as I get em.

Vio-lence was killer. They played basically the same set as the other shows, and Officer Nice pretty much nailed it on his review, so I won't reiterate it, except that their drummer was back to play drums (if I remember from what Phil told me, he had an asthma problem the night before, was taken to the hospital, and didn't play). I got some cool photos of Vio-lence playing and a photo w/ the band and Phil signed my tic afterwards.

Testament fuckn tore the place apart. The set was fuckn killer. I was not expceting "all I could Bleed", "burnt Offerings", and "the preacher". :headbang: It only would have been better if PWYP was played. (they took out souls of black from their hand written set list up on stage)
Like Vio-lence, I got tons of killer shots of the boys in action. I also got on stage and "helped" Chuck sing the chorus to "Disciples of the Watch" (my brother said he got a cool pic of me up there w/ chuck). After my subsequent stage dive, I got kicked out (I told them not to have it at canes. I always get kicked out of there. thank god nuclear assault is playing brick by brick instead). Luckily Deadly Embrace talked them into letting me back in (thanks :headbang:), which was awesome coz I got a pick from Steve and drum stick from Tempesta, which I got signed. I also picked up a wind breaker. Those things are bad ass. Everyone should order one. I stuck around a little bit outside, then bailed coz the boyz were taking awhile to come out of the bus. It was cold, I was tired, no more booze and I wanted to get up early and surf the next day. Oh well.

Hey driftwood, you going to the Creeping Death this friday at Canes? I'm most likely going.

Glad to hear you had a good time I must say I'm more than envious. I somehow doubt that Tempesta will be playing with them on the re-scheduled dates but I guess I can only hope. Did Chuck or anyone from the band/crew happen to mention their concern over the cancelled dates? I would assume they were going home after that SD show.

QUESTION..........

If the Rob Halford / Testament shows were postponed for San Diego / Anaheim/ and Vegas were cancelled, how come Canes went on ????????????? Does that mean that Anaheim is going to happen tonight? This is really fucked up ............ don't you think it would have been nice to try to inform the fans (us) that Testament would still play??????? ...................... ok , I just spoke to a woman @ the House of Blues in Anaheim and she confirmed that NO BANDS ARE PLAYING TONIGHT. So since no one gives a fuck about letting the rest of us know, I am letting whoever lives in So Cal this info. :)

hey hiddenlegions,
i'm sorry that you didn't hear about the San Diego show. How did I hear about it though? well, if you purchased the tickets earlier from ticketmaster, Cane's would have called you to let u know that the show was still going on with Halford. I got a call on Tuesday morning from Cane's telling me that I could call ticketmaster to get my refund for the ticket, and that the show was still going on without Halford for $25.
The band didn't know anything about the re-scheduled dates! The show wasn't even organized right! i guess testament crew managed to have the show still go on despite Halford's cancellation! i guess we should thank them instead of getting mad cuz no one notified us! They're on tour! so i doubt anyone have access to the internet to let u guys know! They would be more than happy to have more people show up at Cane's! but i guess everything was happening on the last minute! Exhumed got there late! and their guitarist asked ME if i knew when they were going to play!!

I just hope the shows get rescheduled soon! We should expect info from halford instead of the Testament crew!

^^^I didnt get a call (I had my own connections to find out what really was going on, and I posted it here for you guys once I knew). And they lowered the price too!!! Weak. I hope Testament and vio-lence got a bigger cut coz I paid $40, not the $25 as you state.

that was actually a background of one the pics of me and Johnny! I zoomed in to get a good scan out of it!
I have no idea who he's with! you might wanna ask someone from the Testament crew! hehe

After our intense disappointment in Las Vegas, the New Year's Eve show in San Diego was a perfect way to end the year and begin a new and better one! I can't think of a more exciting way to celebrate than to bring in 2003 with Testament and Vio-lence! It was the BEST NYE we've experienced.

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Thanks to all the musicians and road crew who worked so hard to make this show happen, in spite of all the difficulties surrounding the mini-tour!
