Still trying to figure out this mixing lark.
This is supposed to be modern, classic rock if that makes any sense!!
Would you have a listen and give me any pointers?

I know the drums (programmed in EZDrummer) could be done better MIDI pattern wise. The whole thing could be cleaned up a bit too, but I'm wondering how it is balance, EQ, punch and mix wise so far. This track is only for mixing practise and I'd welcome any pointers especially criticisms or suggestions of a better way to do things.

The netmusicians one is working now, you pasted the wrong link for the dropbox (you need to use the "Copy public link" option).

About the song itself: Sounds like you had just 1 guitar track in the intro and 2 after that? If that's the case, I suggest you use 2 tracks in the beginning too. After the intro, when you have the chords ringing and the riff played in between them, it sounds like the timing is off in the riff parts.

Overall the mix sounds ok. I feel that the problem is more with the source material not being too great. But it sounds ok, I'd like to hear it with vocals (and the timing problems mixed) :)

Thanks for listening. Yes, there is one guitar up the middle for the into and then one left and right after that. Is that a no no? Does having both tracks all the time just sound better or more correct even when there's only guitar on it's own? I'll give it a try. As I mentioned I'm a total newb but willing and eager to learn.

There's timing errors on both of the guitars and bass, they seem pretty minor though. I think the big issue is the little bass bit before the riff starts each time. It's in time technically on the grid, but it doesn't feel right at all and seems to throw it. What's a "polite" way of dealing with this? I was considering just removing it as it's of no musical use.

Thanks again for listening and I'm gonna try out your suggestions.
What's the best way to patch up timing errors in Reaper? Having it re recorded properly would be ideal obviously but if that's not possible. Is it splitting and moving the region or is there a better way?
