Christopher Lee
Christopher Lee To Release Metal Album
by Music-News.com - January 8 2010

There will not be a new Metallica album this year there will be a metal album from Christopher Lee.

The screen legend - who is best known for starring in several Hammer horror films, including his most famous role as Dracula in the movie of the same name - is bringing out the LP in March and admits he is very excited about the project.

The 87-year-old actor said: 'To my surprise and distinct pleasure I have found there is another string to my bow. My belief is that in March, when this comes out, it’s going to be sensational.

'It’s fascinating for me that at this stage in my life, people are beginning to look upon me as a metal singer.'

The 'symphonic metal' record is entitled 'Charlemagne: By The Sword And The Cross’ and is a concept album which focuses on the story of King Charlemagne, the First Holy Roman Emperor, who reigned in the 8th Century and 9th Century.

It is being produced by Marco Sabiu, best known for working on Take That hit 'Could It Be Magic'.

Lee decided to make the LP as he is a descendant of the emperor.

He added: 'I am, according to the Heraldic College in Rome, actually descended from Charlemagne.'

It is not the first album Lee has released. In 2006 he made an LP of cover versions including Christmas carol 'Silent Night’ and Frank Sinatra’s 'My Way’.

Yes, I did post about it a while ago.

I don't exactly see how it's "hilarious", though. The man is a classically trained singer with a great set of pipes. If anyone's even familiar with some of his best movies, he sings in them. It was only a matter of time until he released a metal album.

It's a cash grab. He's 87, and Rhapsody's legion of nerds loves him. It was only a matter of time until he released a metal album.

eh, I don't see it as a cash grab. for someone that's accomplished as much as he has, and someone that probably has enough money, i can't see why he'd do it solely for the cash

I doubt it's a cash grab too, but it does feel cynical.

Could be cool, though. Plus, if he can teach some people about Charlemagne then it's great.

I've seen this posted multiple times on mutiple forums on UM now, with pretty much every response being "yeah we heard about this weeks ago".
