Newzealanders - Particularly those in the Tauranga/ Auckland areas

Im going to be over in that area from jan 17th - feb 13th as my cousin is marrying the comedian Ewen gilmore. ( WESTIE!)

i was just wondering what kind of metal/alternative scene there is as id quite like to keep myself entertained while my parents do the tourism thing.
obviously i want to find out about the maori history but being a younger generation .. im not gonna want to stay with thme the whole time.
my cousins said they will take me round the places id like and introduce me to people too. but i was wodnering if there were any really cool places i definatley should check out... incase they dont know about them

seriously, this country has nothing to offer. We don't even have any good CD stores. But if your cousins are metallers, you should be fine. Your only hope is good company.

I'd believe that. This place isn't exactly inspiring. Also, everybody here is either black, or wants to be black. Metal has no place here.

when i was in queenstown, there was hardly anything there, not even a guitar store! although i was lucky enough to find james murphys solo album in the cd shop there, but no there is basically no metal following in nz, or at leats with local bands. All the gigs that were on in queenstown were eurotrash techno bullshit.

recently went to a newzealand/ australian music festival in london and met shit loads of cool people.
maybe all the cool people came to uk.. while the miserable sods stay where they are and just moan about how shit it is

It's a pity because NZ is such a beautiful country and I had the time of my life when I was there a couple of years ago... and if I lived in Auckland then I could go to all of the Warriors' home games (and go down to Wellington for their away game against the Bulldogs), but in Brisbane I can only see them once a year, and for some reason it's ALWAYS when I'm out of town!

But I'll stay here for now

well, if its rugby you want, this place IS a beautiful country. But for me, all the sporting freaks this country has just further debeautifies the place. If you prefer sports to metal, then you'd have no trouble at all living here. For me, metal is my life, so I really shouldn't be here. A lot of people love this country. Foreign exchange students, tourists, etc. It's just not a good place for metal.

I have heard a few of those..(Backyard Burial,Malevolence,Eight foot Sativa) and they are nothing special at all.. usually boring death metal...I'll stick with Scandinavia for my metal..
