Next mixing context - Deadline August 12, 2006 @ Midnight

thanks guys!

the kick and snare actually have alot more of the original mixed in than it sounds. I pretty much got them sounding good on their own and augmented with samples.
I mixed the snare something like 50/50 mix of original and sample (sneaps samples, btw)
I used the Vulgar.. (Pantera) kick mixed ever so slightly with the original. You're basically hearing the click of the pantera kick with the punch and 'feel' of the original..

Parallel compression is the key here as well as pitching the samples for the song..

Cheers!
Charlie

there's one thing i don't get.....
some peaple are complaining 'bout the vocals, but nobody does complain about the guitars ;).
perhaps i've got different files here, but when a guitarist at my studio plays that sloppy i send him home to rehearse the song for a couple of days.
not meant as an offense, but there are some mistakes that are hardly excusable on a live gig, but in studio?

or am i just bitching about guitars all the time, 'cause i'm a guitarist myself?:zombie:

The guys in the band would be first to agree. However, your first impression is probably from the dry tracks. Distorted tracks sound odd and crappy when dry.

i know, i mean the timing issues, like not starting in sync and stuff like that.
but i know i'm too picky 'bout stuff like that, happened more than once, that i grabbed the guitar, when the band's guitarist couldn't do the job ;)

in this case it's not that bad, i just think the band is great, and with a little more effort they would have been able to play way tighter.

Agreed. If I could just get the drummer to use a click, I think everything else would have worked out better.

Regardless, these guys slay live.

i do believe that.
and it's not, that i don't like the recording, the music is great and you did a good job!:notworthy
it's just that i think it could be even better ;)

damn, just reamped the guitars, was too lazy to bring all the gear into the studio, so i just grabbed my laptop and a 57 and did it in the rehearsal bunker.
back home i realize, that the guitars are too dull and lacking bite (no wonder, take a look at the amps eq).

so i've got to do it again on friday, DAMNIT!:yuk:

but anyway, here's a pic of the setup i use:

no, it's a custommade guitar pre, 3 discrete channels, based on clones of my favorites, but improved in some ways (more gain, tighter bass, less noise, switchable tonestacks etc).
it's called PR-1, and it's the best amp i've ever owned (and i had some vht, mesa, engl, marshall, soldano etc).

i know what you're saying, and the bass isn't perfect either...
but the whole thing than anything i could come up with myself so i'm grateful for the opportunity

seems like i'm the only one who likes to mix from the drummers perspective ;)
toms have to go from left to right :goggly:
nope, me too :)
also, i panned the guitars different to what mixes i've heard so far :goggly:

thanks for explaining dude! btw, just heard your new ideas on your myspace.
you must have been listening to tesseract/textures?:kickass:

lol, yeah. i'm loving the new Textures and I've always dug what Tesseract has done.. still trying to infuse that kind of sound and make it less a blatant rip and somewhat heavier, haha.

LSD-studio: this is the first time I've strayed away from drummers perspective.. I guess that's just how they were labeled so I panned 'em accordingly, haha.

I still prefer Drummers P. as I can Air Drum like maaaad!
