WOW dude, you've got 52 files in there. Whats all that about? which ones are the main raw files, or the ones you recomend using? And what are the guitar tracks labled as?

52 tracks? Perhaps I made a mistake. I didn't think it was tha many.

I can't check right now.

It seems as though the first RAR folder has all the tracks, then the other two RAR folders have copies of them, but seperated....??
I just realised that to do this properly im either gona have to get Guitar suite or a re-amp box, can anyone recommend a cheaper reamp? (i wouldn't mind having one for later projects anyway)

That is a little odd with rar files. Once uncompressed there should be 27 files total.

Quick question, whats the tempo of the track (BPM)?

Sorry, no click was used. For some reason, metal drummers is this area are not hip on clicks.

Yup, 27 files when they're un-rar'ed - but if you just look in the .rar's then you'll see more (part 1 has 27, part 2 has 17, part 3 has 8). If the three parts aren't all in the same folder when you extract them, things will go a bit funky.

I never thought of his vox as bad. I like his vox.

great song BTW, I really dig this band. The vox aren't bad no, just a tad different.. they're definitely growing on me.

The drummer however, is great! I love what he's doing with all the cymbal variations. His playing has real 'spice' to it I guess you could say.. great stuff.

Charlie

Notice - Vox Clean 2 is actually the main "sing" track. Vox Clean 1 is the background harmony.

hey, i'm new to this contest thing but i think i wanna give it a shot... 2 newbie questions:
1. will the final entries also be mastered, or do we submit unmastered mixes?
2. am i prohibited to share my entry with other people?

1. It's really up to you. Just put in your best effort overall. Some would argue that mixing and mastering are becoming part of the same process. From some recent reading, mastering had a whole other meaning years ago when trying to save tape life.

2. Share all you want. Any exposure is good exposure for the band. I know the guys in the band would agree.

Plus, don't be scared that I would take credit from anyone. I'm not like that. I'll always give credit when credit is due. If I (or the band) post any mixes, I'll gladly post the correct credentials.

They are pitch corrected in melodyne. I just left those there. You may not want to use them.

Actually, his pitch was not off that much.

It's up to you man. Produce!!! :)

I really should take the blame for it. He's a good singer. I should've pushed him harder.

OK, my first attempt. As far as the mixing goes, here is what I did. I reamped the guitars from my MOTU896HD into a PodXT Pro. From here I had a completely clean patch, except for the noise gate on slightly, and also I used the Tube Screamer sim. I sent the FX loop out to the JMP-1. I can't remember the exact settings, it was roughly: Gain 14, Bass 4, Mids -1, Treble 2, Presence 1. The JMP-1 was rigged up to a Marshall EL34 100/100 poweramp, and a 1960B was hooked up to the poweramp. I mic'ed the 1960 with a 57 just slightly off axis, and this was sent to a (unfortunately) Presonus Tubepre. It still sounds a lot better going into that, than straight into the 896 however. All 3 guitars used the same rhythm patch. The lead guitar was also reamped through the JMP-1, but I raised the mids to 2/3. Sorry about the picture quality, just used my phone for it.

For the bass, I used a mixture of the DI signal, and I also reamped the Bass into the Pod with the Ampeg bass sim. In the mix I blended the 2 together.

As far as processing stuff in the mix goes, on the guitars I used a bit of URS and Sonalksis EQ, C4, and PSP's Vintage Warmer. Guitars are panned hard left, hard right and center. Each one seemed to have its own position. I automated the guitars to drop just slightly in the verses also. Drums are mostly the real drums, with the kick mixed in with the Andy Sneap Kick drum sample, and the snare mixed with the Sneap snare samples (to a lesser extent).

For the vocals I used the GVST Gate, Sonalksis Compressor, and URS N12 EQ, as well as a Verb on the FX sends.

Not exactly sure what else I have done, too be honest, if you have any questions feel free to ask! Im fairly content with this mix, and Im more than surprised with the guitar tone. It came out a lot better than I expected. My RAM is holding me back slightly, a lot of track freezing and patience featured. Hopfully ill upgrade from my 512MB RAM soon!

Enjoy - machinated_mix1 - YouSendIt - EDIT: Changed to 192Kbps

BTW MKS I really enjoyed mixing both of these tunes that you have put up. Its invaluble experience for me, as having a complete set of metal recordings to play with aren't so easy to find for people looking for more experience, and its perfect practise. I really appreciate it, as Im sure everyone else does here, and long may it continue :kickass: Very well tracked too, it was done great.

Machinated,

Super huge thanks for being so descriptive! I will listen to the mix later tonight.

I honestly surprised this generated so much interest. I was worried people might actually get pissed at me.

The feedback I'm getting will help me immensely as I learn how to mix.

Thanks again!!
