No problem man, if I can offer anything at all in terms of help Im more than happy to, as I have learnt so much from this forum. From these mixes I have done from your recordings, I have sorted out 2 bands to record in August. Expect plenty of samples coming then!
MKS - Although we have Glenns mighty drum recording thread, Id be curious to know what your take is on it. Where do you place your OH's etc. I have a little experience recording drums, but Id still really like some more tips.
Funny you should ask.
This drummer hates being recorded in big rooms. So for shits in giggles, I wrapped his kit in acoustic blankets. I used heavy duty plastic clamps to hold the blankets to the drum rack. Basically, all you could see is his higher mounted cymbals that peaked above the blankets.
I also have some auralex xpanders. I used one on each mic to help isolate the mic.
I placed the OH mics behind the kit about 6 feet high. I aimed them both at the snare. They were also about 6 feet apart.
I placed the ambient about 5 feet high and 6 feet directly in front of the kit.
Snare - SM57 & DDrum Trigger -> RME Firewire 800
Under Snare (Acutally on the floor) - Sennheiser MD421II -> RME Firewire 800
Kick - e602 & DDrum Trigger -> RME Firewire 800
Toms - e604 -> M-Audio Octane
Ride - MAudio Nova Condenser Microphone -> M-Audio Octane
Hats - MAudio Nova Condenser Microphone -> M-Audio Octane
Overheads - (2) Behringer B2 Pro Microphone -> M-Audio Octane
Ambient - Rode K2 Tube Microphone -> M-Audio Octane
I have 4 large bass traps in the room and the entire room is almost completely engulfed in acoustic foam. Honestly, I think it's overkill but we had to keep peace with the neighbors.
Here's a shitty pic I took with my phone.
So, the moral of the story. Keep trusting Oz for advice. I'm just experimenting with different setups. Obviously he knows what works.
