Nick Crow 7170 Lead - Guitar Amp VST

Hello.
The sample "Dimitar_Nalbantov_SongSample.mp3" sounds close to John Petrucci sound !
Can I have the settings for this sound please ? :D

Hey Nick, is there any special run-time needed to run this plug-in? Wagner 0.6 works fine for me but Wagner MKII and the 7170 cause my copy of Cubase 5 to crash on Startup. Im using a Q9300 so its not a sse issue. Thanks!

I did a quick test with some DI tracks Marcus posted a few months back. Most of the sims being talked about here, with me trying to fiddle a tone up really quickly with each one. Same TSS setting on each and same cabinet impulse on each. Only thing that varies is the amp sim and the settings being dialed into it.

Bear in mind this was done on cans at 3am, so take that into account. From what I can hear, there is a clear winner.

Love the sound on the 7170, missing some lowend compared to the real 6505 but nice.

Du you mind sharing the drive, power amp and other eq settings on the 7170 ?

And if you have time, would you mind trying to do the comparison with 8505?
Thanks man already for the comparison, really helpful in itself!

I did a comparison over on the 8505 thread, in the equipment forum. Here are the links:

@Wackner: Please disregard what you heard in that shoot-out. I updated the 6505 file to reflect using a different (better) cab impulse for the sake of the 8505 comparison, so it sounds unfairly better than the other 3 of those amps there.

Okey. But can you still post the amp settings and the chain you are using? That will be :headbang:

Sorry man, I forgot the exact settings as I was just trying to match the tone of the real 6505 really quickly. For what it's worth I believe the 8505 sim will get you much closer. I do remember the chain though, which was TSS into 7170 into SIR 2 running one of the recabinet demo impulses. With the 8505 it was my custom TS (an actual physical unit) into 8505 with the Catharsis higher presence 5 or 8 impulse. Settings were something like bass at 2-3, mids at 0.5, highs at 7, power amp on 0, gain max.

Hope that's somewhat helpful. I normally don't concentrate on settings so I don't remember them. They will vary with everything... from your guitar to pickups to DI to mic preamp, to the level that's going into your DAW to your playing style. So presets commonly aren't very much use.

i heard this and have been playing around with the physical ts and different di/pre combos and notice a drastic difference.... still not quite what i consider usable but really close now to what micing a cab really sounds like...still looking for that comfortable spot to say i can use impulses on a mix and feel comfortable over reamping...........but its not there yet need someone to hook some 421/mesa or bogner cab impulses up with some of the 57 ones... if i wansnt under construction now i would take a shot at it but every batch of impusles i have made so far i really dont like to my standards..........

I have some problems monitoring the sound from this VST. I have my guitar going to my soundcard, to a cubase track. Monitor button is on, record is on, vst is loaded, and it see's input on the transport window.. but nothing is heard. If i record something and play it back, i can hear it fine.

Any ways round this?

Use the help file :kickass:

After some tweaking here's a little ditty I redid using the 7170 for guitars.

Signal Chain:
Omen-7 > M-Audio (DMP3) > MBox2 > Pro Tools 8.0 > Gtr1 > C4 Sneap > BTE TS Secret > 7170 > Boogex

I can post the settings for the guitar, maybe some screen caps if anyone thinks it sounds decent. Let me know if it doesn't and I'll tweak some stuff. Drums are DFH Superior and Bass is POD Farm.

For the Boogex Impulse I used the Sperimental Framus cab.

L2 on the master out.

Sounds great dude !

And i love that song btw ! Very heavy and intense !

I was asking Nick Crow about a mono capable version of his plugs. Well today I noticed that I can just choose which plugs are mono capable. :D
It has 19 samples of delay, Boogex has 96.

Also in the list TSS comes up as Vintage Overdrive

If you could post exact settings it would be great :headbang: And drum processing, too :Smokin::loco: ;)

SWEET! Love that tone.

The mix is a bit too roomy, but that's not the subject here.

Hands down.
