End Of An Era. I have been watching this DVD lately and am loving it! Anybody else here viewed the DVD and your thoughts on it?
Seriously? I was definitely a bit envious of those in attendance at the Helsinki show.Yeah, it's one hell of a concert ever shot on DVD![]()
But maybe I'm biased... I mean... I was there and saw it all live![]()

WAY COOL!I thought EoaE was great. I also loved the Day Before Tomorrow that came with it. And, yes, I have the ticket for that show sitting on the mantle, in all it's laminated glory.![]()

That WAS one of the best shows ever, wasn't it?!Yeah, it's one hell of a concert ever shot on DVD![]()

What a blast, the whole weekend, really. This DVD got me into Nightwish. "What the Hell ... aren't you supposed to know their CD's first?" you might ask. Yes, I did this backwards. After hearing a few songs on Youtube (especially Sleeping Sun) and reading all the mess about the search for a replacement singer, I decided to just straight-up buy the DVD. It was Tarja's last peformance, the band was supposedly top-notch that night, etc., so why not? After being blown away, I bought a ticket for the Atlanta show and ordered all of their albums. I've been a happy camper ever since![]()
It's real metal ice-breaker, if you will. Excellent insight there. That's how I got into Therion's m usic, from buying their double live album. Kudos to RD for joining the NW music family!Actually that is a great way to start with a band, figure they're going to be doing a best of song wise and with Nightwish the performance is always great.
That is an awesome DVD just like their other one. It gets played quite a bit at parties at my house. Lots of my non-metal friends got into the band from watching that DVD.

Yeah, it still brings a big smile on my face when I recall what we experienced and whom we met that weekend. The interview with John Two-Hawks and his wife was absolutely another highlight. Chatting afterwards with them, Jukka and Tuomas at the lobby bar, not to mention the actual concert at Hartwall Areena with Sonata Arctica opening... ah, memories to cherish, indeed! That WAS one of the best shows ever, wasn't it?!What a blast, the whole weekend, really.
Though biased, I absolutely love the DVD, though it is a little bit disconcerting the way it jumps from one member to the next so quickly. I'd like them to hold the focus just a little longer. Surely they have to take out the mistakes and glitches, but I kind of miss them.
It was a small wonder she could sing at all. She had caught a bad flu after coming back to freezing Finland from their last leg in hot and moist South America. The doctor ordered her to remain totally silent for two days before the show and it was a big questionmark whether her voice would last the elongated concert. But she made it, and if you didn't know about the problem, it hardly can be heard on the DVD. Awesome show despite what happened later! The only thing bad about the DVD is that Tarja's voice sounded pretty off most of the night, but if I remember correctly she wasn't feeling all that well and was barely able to do the show as it is. I personally thought the versions of songs on the "End of Innocence" DVD were her better performances vocally. However the rest of the band is top notch on End of An Era.![]()

The DVD is all the director's view on the concert. It shows that his previous works have been mostly videos for songs (even for the big American popstars) and putting together a whole concert on a DVD was something new to him. He really could have left out those awkward flame effects and stuff, you know, but he didn't ruin the whole thing, did he?
