Not trying to start an Iraq debate but it's been 3 years

Adaptation is one thing, but to think we can survive militariliy in this world with a small, technologically advanced force is pretty naive, in my estimation. The last thing he should be doing is denying advice from those who have studied and experienced military science as we head towards continual conflict. Someone needs to smack him severely upside the head.

that's kind of the thing...like alot of issues, it can have its complexities. The Generals are wrong in that they if they had the choice probably wouldn't even want special forces; they take up precious resources that would prevent the generals from buying another 5403 humvees (not those pussy civilian versions).

that said, Rummy has proven to be spectacularly wrong in his assessment that we could occupy a country the size of iraq with such a small force. He, Bush, Cheney, and all the other civilian "experts" have led us into this mess from which there is no easy way out, and they refuse to adapt because that would be admitting they were wrong.

Remember statements like, "The Iraqis will greet us with thunderous applause and will strew rose petals at the feet of our liberating army!"

and my personal favorite, from either Wolfowitz or Bremmer, "I would not be surprised to see a statue of George W. Bush in a public square in Baghdad."

simply stunning myopia.

You make a valid point. I never stated that the higher-end military should have any say over the budgetary concerns for military, that lesson has been learned. This is a splendid example of why there needs to be a balance betwen military and civilians in terms of expenditure.

I have several friends involved in the Rangers, Seals, and special ops and I get to hear some fascinating realities about what has occured in Afghanistan and Iraq. There is a bizarre, almost unbelievable hubris amidst those in charge who, having never been in ANY combat, believe they actually understand martial dynamics. I've watched a close friend who did time in both countries and who, before hand, was a Ranger drill-instructor and avid Bush supporter, determine it might be time to look into a new political perspective.

Sometimes our government is like watching a Shakespearian comedy... except the results have proven tragic.
