Novembers Doom press release

Congrats. Sorry I can't tolerate the death vox that permeate your records, cuz I like the music. To each his own, but best of luck with your new release!
That's a shame. In an odd way, I feel a bit bad for people who don't enjoy harsh vocals. It seems that much of the best music being created these days is in the extreme genres. And Paul, from ND, is probably only behind Mikael for clean/Death vocalists.

That's extremely interesting actually....
To me, Mikael's vocals are one of Opeth's weakest links.
Once again, that's just me.

I find Mikael's clean vocals weak as all hell.

Paul's, or even Thomas from Saturnus, clean vocals are haunting!

I can't say I'm a fan of their last couple of albums, but I'll buy this for Dan Swano's clean and death vocals. I think the band's earlier stuff, up until The Novella Reservoir, is their best. And Paul Kuhr is a fantastic singer.

I agree with this to the letter.

Have you heard These Are They? They are Paul from ND's death metal band. Total old school death metal worship, but fucking great.

To me, Paul's vox are some of the most palatable among the growlies. His enunciation is terrific, and I can understand almost every word he says. He produces intensity with clarity, whereas a lot of other growlers simply produce an unintelligible mess. If anything, his weakness is when he drifts into the cleaner vox, since he tends to be a bit monotone and almost spoken-wordish.

I've never thought about this before, but I wonder what Novembers Doom would sound like if they wen the Mercenary route and had a second vocalist who - when clean vocals were called for - would take a huge deep breath and really belt it out.

Anyway, I hope you try again to tolerate the vocals!

Not the same. Because Paul's cleans are supposed to be haunting and brooding, not bombastic. It wouldn't fit the mood of most of their songs in my opinion.
