nt5 vs oktava mk012

hello

I'm looking for a good cheap mic to record acoustic instruments, mainly guitars so I want something able to get a very natural feel. I know that the oktava mk012-01 (cardioid only) is a very good one for this purpose. The nt5 and the nt3 are almost at same price. which one do you recommend?

I tried the nt5's. They sounded very detailed but super boring sounding. THe best word i can think of is "clinical". I like a touch of character.

They would work though.

mmm good to know. I heard great stuff recorded with the nt3, very clear sound. but I never tried the oktava.

cant help much since i dont have a nt5 but this was recorded with 2 of my modded mk012s so if you hate this sound might wanna go for the nt5 and if you love it might wanna go for the oktava . one pointed at the 12th fret and the other at the bridge-ish both pointed inward.

no problem man! just keep in mind i modded them with better electronics so they are suppose to have more clarity but im sure its fairly close to the originals still

Although the NT3 is very good on acoustic guitars imo, I'd go for the MK012.

Definitely the MK012. Did a shootout of about 15-20 mics on acoustic (including Neumann, AKG, Lawson, Royer, etc.) and the MK012 was among the very best of the bunch.
