Hi guys.

A friend just told me about the group track feature in Nuendo.

Whats the difference between a FX channel track or a group track?
To me it sounded like they do the same thing.

One thing to note is that you cannot use stereo effects for mono sources on Group Channels, but you can on an FX Channel. Say, you have a mono lead guitar track and you want to add a stereo delay to it, the stereo delay effect will only be stereo in an FX Channel. In a Group Channel, the delay will always be center panned for mono sources, no matter what panning settings you tell the delay to use.

I was a little curious about this.
I'm using cubase sx, and i wasn't too sure about it so i did a little test for myself...

i made a small mono audio track
created both a group and an fx track of type MONO
created both a group and an fx track of type STEREO
sent the mono audio track pre-fader to each of these.

Anyway, i found out the stereo group and fx tracks are able to pan and produce stereo effects, and the mono group and fx tracks were only able to produce the stereo effects in mono.

I'm not sure maybe it's different in Nuendo, but that seems to be why you have the option to choose between making a stereo/mono group track.

I believe this would be correct

The Stereo Group only works in Cubase (at least) if the source is stereo too. If you send a mono source to a Stereo Group, it won't do stereo effects properly at least for me. However, FX Channels work with mono sources too.
