Mikael Åkerfeldt has written an official excuse for the fans in Chile, Santiago. www.opeth.com under the News section.

Yep. Opeth isn't as mainstream as everyone thinks, huh? Not getting paid, getting fucked around by promoters, a tour crew that consists of 9 people.

But yet, "Damnation is a sell out, man!"

:yell: Fucking stupid metalheads. :yell:

Metallica... hummm.. interesting.... 4 albums and then: sell out.

Opeth... 7 albums soo far.. sell out, i don't think so.

But that sux, i know i would be really pissed if they didn't show up.

edit....
i've just read the news board on www.opeth.com
Damn!!!... that was pretty much the same razon why Dark Tranquility never came to Mexico...

Fuck Dilemma... those kind of people give a really bad name to Latin America...

The point was that after Justice, who thought that Metallica would go to the direction they did? I don't really hold anything against them, but they're a much less interesting band after St. Shit.

I agree with you... Metallica... damn, St. Anger its the worst album i've heard in a looooong time.

But... with Opeth... yeah, Damnation its more friendly, but still... there are more friendly albums out there, and they are not necesarly* comercial.

*(is that how you write it?? 'necesarly'?)

Exactly why I said "We'll see in 10 years". :) Meant Damnation by no means.

It's necessarily.

Hehe, we're on the verge of descending into a Metallica-bashing thread again.

Nowhere near...and I think it's been beaten to death already.

Actually I think you'll find it's closer to a bloody pulp. Some of us got a little over enthusiastic earlier.

Well, No offense to Jason Newstead, but Metallica sucked after Cliff Burton died. The direction they were headed with Masters was incredible... then a patch of ice on a road... then Metallica takes a turn for the worse. I can not picture Opeth going thru that kind of altering experience and continuing, considering the changes in personnel that has already occured.

Opeth will never get the opportunity to sell out like Metallica did. The song "One" made Casey Kasem's top 40!! Even right now, Opeth only has a small fraction of the popularity that Metallica had during the Justice era.

all i'll say is the opeth that i saw on the deliverance tour is not the band represented by that DVD.
I really hope as good as damnation is that it is never looked at again. It was a bad idea from the start and to be honest it could have been much better than it was.
On the DVD steve wilson makes himself out to be a right tit in my opinion. going on about whether PT fans will like the albums, who gives a shit?

Opeth need to be reminded of thier roots before things go completely up the left.
