O/T Johnnie finally saw it!

I´m talking about Some Kind Of Monster! I finally got to see it yesterday.
Well it was quite interesting. My basic impressions were following:

Lars Ulrich-self centered arrogant dickhead and a shitty drummer (what a discovery from me )
James Hetfield-paranoid psychopath, not enjoying what he´s doing at all, got maybe even worse after rehab
Kirk Hammet-felt sorry for him to be in the same room with them, cool guy
Jason Newsted-pretty cool guy
Dave Mustaine-bitter, whining, fucking asshole and loser. The biggest asshole of the entire movie. Jesus fucking Christ. Was he for real? Was this whole "document" for real or was it mostly fake?

Don´t get me wrong, this is not Metallica bashing thread I still like their music, except of Shit Anger, and I actually enjoyed the movie too.

I just saw it for the first time a few days ago. I thought it was pretty boring, I think your descriptions of the members are very accurate. I think Rob is the best part of that band now, he is a badass player.

I realize that after the Black album they went a little soft and have made a whole bunch of money by not sticking to their roots, But they are still Fucking Metallica. One of the best and most successful metal bands of all time. St Anger wasn't that good, but did anyone see the Madly In Anger tour? Fucking kicked ass and they only played one song from that album. Anyway, to each his own, I guess.

I saw them on the tour and it was pretty good except the St. Anger songs and "Turn the Page" (piss break). I also got to meet them (thanks John L!) and they were all very friendly.

Back in the day these dudes were fucking GODS. The movie made them seem human, flaws and all. There were times when I thought that James was a prick, and times when I thought that Lars was a prick. People have their moments.

Oh, and I agree that at the end I kinda felt sorry for Kirk, being stuck in the middle of all this bullshit.

It keeps him hungry. MegadetH never came close to the shittiness of 'Load' era thru present era Metallica. Not even with 'Risk'.

I could easily find 14 tracks off of the Load Twins to put together a solid album... it was just the other 13 tracks of filler that brought 'em down a level or two.

I have to agree . i'm still like both bands but as far as weak that ones right up their with any crappy Metallica tune. A real stink bomb. When I first heard it i thought from the begining it was a Loverboy song ("Turn Me Loose" i think it is).

Hey, it gives me an excuse to sing MegadetH when I go to a hockey game.
The local ECHL team plays 'Crush 'Em' along with 'Dixieland' by Jackyl, 'I Stand Alone' by Godsmack and 'Welcome to the Jungle' by GnR during their pre game warm ups. Now, you gotta admit..you'd rather hear that, instead of whatevers on the pop charts.

Finally! About Mustaine: especially after reading his online outbursts afterwards! God, this guy just fucking can't let it go! He's saying they "misrepresented" him in the movie? It seems pretty fucking clear that after 20-something years he can't get over that he was kicked out of Metallica. After the shit he's said online I have completely lost respect for the guy. As for Newsted, he seems like kind of a jerk to me. I think he's more afraid of confronting issues than the other guys. But I respect the choices he's made; ultimately Metallica wasn't right for him. I didn't feel that strongly about Hetfield, but definitely a control-freak, and I think Lars was right to be angry about that, but he came off as such a petulant child. I don't think Lars is really into it anymore. The overall impression for me is that these guys are now 40 or more, and haven't/hadn't developed emotionally since they were 18, as is the case with most rock/movie/whatever stars. I can't believe they even made it this far. Het was cool live, and he seems much happier on stage than a few years ago, so I don't know if he's worse now. We'll see when they have to make new music. In the end, I respect them for making this movie.

I guess in the minority here, no surprise, but let's just get it out in the open: I like I Disappear, I like Load and Reload, I like St. Anger.

I kinda liked Jason though, he always seemed like a regular guy with little or no ego, same goes for Kirk. Also, after reading countless interviews from Lars and James about the shit they used to do Jason that they called "hazing the new guy". I would have beat Lars head into a bloody pulp. They treated Jason like total shit, didn't let him have any input in the writing process and were just all around pricks to the guy. I thought Some Kind of Monster is the best comedy of '05
