Prog Metal Band Odin's Court Release Deathanity (R3)

Progressive Metal for fans of Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Porcupine Tree, Iron Maiden, King’s X, Metallica, HIM, and Journey, Enchant, Queen

Baltimore, MD - USA based progressive rock and metal band Odin's Court's announced the re-release of their 2008 album Deathanity (R3) for March, 1 2016. Deathanity (R3) is a “reboot” of the original ProgRock Records album, consisting of a remix (original recording), new recordings (e.g., vocals), and a re-master.

Band leader Matt Brookins commented on the decision to revisit Deathanity: “This was an important album to the band – we worked hard independently, and then shopped it to labels. It was picked up by ProgRock Records (2008), and to date remains our best selling and most popular release. While we were, and still are, proud of what we did, there are some factors that made us want to revisit and improve the quality of the album…mainly, the addition of Dimetrius LaFavors (lead vocals), but also my improvements as an engineer and producer. Additionally, the concept of the album is becoming increasingly important in today’s world, so hopefully we will reach even more ears with this re-release. Stylistically, this album is heavy, progressive, and artsy.”

Deathanity was well received when originally released:

There's wonderful variety from section to section, the instrumentation and the songwriting are clearly the album's strengths.” – Sea of Tranquility

The sound of the group is quite personal with a lot of quality, and fantastic production for their music, very pleasant to the ear, nothing strident, with guitars and smooth refining where all instruments are in a place where you can distinguish each of them with complete ease.” – Hall of Metal

Matt Brookins has succeeded in serving a fantastic album to the inclined listener. From the first minute until the last there is insanely much to discover, and the protagonists are true masters of their instruments.” – Rock Times

The band is continuing off the momentum gained from the positive press received on their latest album Turtles All the Way Down (2015):

Odin’s Court has quietly become one of the best bands in the American Progressive Rock scene, and this album is a perfect example of why that is the case.” – Hard Rock Haven

Terrific melodic prog/metal that gets better with every listen!” – USA Progressive Music

The band plays heavy rock inundated with catchy guitar riffs, cool keyboard passages, and excellent lead vocals…the music is so well played, upbeat and catchy as any rock/metal album I have heard in a while.” - Sea of Tranquility

The strengths are undoubtedly the singing, orchestration, and the work on the guitars. It is highly recommended listening!” – MusicInBelguim.Net

From Maryland comes the latest album from the progressive metal band Odin's Court titled "Deathanity (R3)." It is a re-release of their 2008 breakthrough album "Deathanity" with newly recorded vocals and a remixed sound to the album to give it a more modern sound. The musicianship on this album is top-notch as Odin's Court look to draw you in with the opening instrumental "Terracide" and keep you excited with their amazing solos in "Mammanific" and "Esoterica." They recreate Friedrich Schiller's "Ode To Joy," turning the double-bass drums into a heart pumping masterpiece. The album closes with the prog-metal excitement of "Cosmosera" and the classical appeal of "Vastificant." First things first, and as usual, whomever created the artwork for this re-release from Odin’s Court deserves an artistic medal! I mean, I know it's a re-release from an album originally released back in 2008, but to be given the task of "changing it up" and yet "keeping it the same" must have been a real brain teaser for the artists in question! And yet, by golly, they did it. We see what seems to be vultures circling a burning tree; an apt imagery to clearly show what was happening back then in their musical lives, perhaps.

OK, moving on and USA based progressive rock and metal band Odin’s Court have unleashed their epic, and highly-anticipated re-release of Deathanity (R3) upon us - and it is everything that we had hoped for, trust me. Originally recorded, mixed, and mastered by band architect Matt Brookins at D2C Studios back between January 2007 and March 2008, here in 2015, the band have come together to enhance it; re-energize it, so to speak.

Thus, Odin's Court did partial records (ie: Dimetrius LaFavors, vocals), a full remix, and a remaster to improve the sonic quality / production value of the album, lastly renaming the album Deathanity (R3). FYI - The R3 standing for Rerecord, Remix, and Remaster.

Having subsequently already since brought forth four other highly diverse albums (on ProgRock Records internationally, the independent route via their own label, D2C Studios domestically), Odin's Court have now taken a step back to propel them forward.

Formed in Maryland by Matt Brookins in 2001, Odin’s Court - Brookins (Vocalist, Guitarist, Keyboardist, and multi-instrumentalist); Rick Pierpont (Guitarist, Backing Vocalist); Dimetrius LaFavors (Vocalist); Gary Raub (Drummer, Percussionist, and Backing Vocalist); and Jason Pierpont (Bassist) - have once again stepped up their game this time.

Deathanity (R3) is an ambitious concept album dealing with the effects mankind's actions are having on the planet. Alternate views are offered through the use of instrumentation, lyrics, sound effects, and various vocal clips. Ambience, dynamics, and soul are combined with complexity, groove, and energy in a song oriented structure, to create a unique, surreal landscape. Each song, dealing with a different theme, is accompanied by a newly created word and definition in the album art.

In closing, Odin's Court may play a mix of metal (hard rock oriented more than death metal) and symphonic prog, but come the end, especially here on this over-one-hour-long new musical investment, well, it's going to be hard to find another band so attune to the world around them - even one back then, of course.

“Deathanity” is a reissue of the original with a new singer, which was released on the now defunct Prog Rock records, and it is jam packed with progressive metal elements to make you bang your head.

Odin’s Court has some heavy groove rhythms and riffs, but it is more written in mind for the thinking person’s progressive metal affair. The vocals fit the music quite well, as the guitars and synths flow together seamlessly making for a real exciting listening experience. There it not a dull moment on this album, as they’ve even incorporated Saxophone and jazz-like piano arrangements in a couple of their songs. Now is this musical diversity taking progressive metal to the next level, while remaining true to their roots of progressive metal mixed in with influences from traditional heavy metal and theatrical rock, bordering on the likes of Queen.

There is an hours worth of material here, which definitely makes “Deathanity” a very diversified listening experience, as you’re absorbed in the band’s musical proficiency of the highest caliber.

The sound and mix is nothing short of excellent, as every instrument can be heard clearly, and the vocals pretty much steal the show on this album. This singer can definitely sing his lungs out, with so much control over the notes he hits, it’s very interesting to note the way he puts so much depth and feeling into his melodic vocals.

The instrumentation here is solid and played with the utmost perfection, and the whole band sounds completely cohesive.

I cannot wait to check out newer material from this quintet, as Odin’s Court is going to go very far, as long as they stick to their guns. Very cool. Sarjoo Devani

ODIN’S COURT/Deathanity: The melodic, prog metal crew debut album is re-released and spiffed up with some modern tech to make it even more beloved for the fans that already love it so. A genre splicing outing for modern ears that want to soak it all up and dig deep into the nuances, this is crazy, wonderful stuff for the younger brothers (sons?) of the kids that originally dug this outsider stuff and kept it’s underground alive.
