I just heard Stupid Dream a few weeks ago I must say I really like it. Steven Wilson's vocals are really enjoyable, as they were in Blackwater Park for sure. The music is very interesting and surprises all the time, or at least most of the time, there are a few weaker songs.

Now, enlighten me, are all Porcupine Tree's albums as brilliant, or are they even better! How about their style, has it changed through years?

i've got these pt albums:

stupid dream [fantastic]
recordings [fantastic]
lightbulb sun [fantastic]
voyage 34 [not so great as i thought when i bought it...]
metanoia [fantastic]
staircase infinities ep [great, great, really great!!!!!!]

should i add something?

well, for more infos, visit www.porcupinetree.com, the official site.
i have got just some songs from the early albums, and i need more money to buy them... anyway, no doubt that pt is a band over many, many others, and it's not a case that steven wilson has been the only guest on an opeth album after 5 releases [well, if we exclude fredrik playing hammond on epilogue...]

search for pt stuff, and enjoy it!

I saw "Recordings" in a shop at the weekend, it had a sticker on the case that read "File under self-indulgent"

I thought that was pretty funny:)

I like Porcupine Tree, they're very good!

if you saw recordings and you didn't get it, you've made the wrong choice...

the 1st track, buying new soul, is worth the buying itself... 1 of the best i've ever heard in a lifetime...

I didn't buy anything, I didn't have any money. I saw a music shop and had to go in...

As Mikael once said in an interview, they beat most of the competition with a collection of B-sides...it is amut own if you love the last two albums, or have more than a passing interest in the band.

I would probably have Stupid Dream now, but on amazon.com one of my friends tried to order it and after 2 months, amazon sent him an email that it will take another month... so he cancelled it.I dont' want to wait that long. :bah:
I havent checked my local music stores, but I doubt they're there, I live in northern Ohio for god's sake.
But I'll eventually get Stupid Dream and probably Signify and Lightbulb sun.

Yup, I've heard that one as well and I might say I was in some kind of trance while listening to it. Hmm, I'm slowly turning into a PT fan. :)

I have Lightbulb Sun, Stupid Dream and Signify. They are great albums and they are tied with Opeth for being my favorite band right now. I can not say which my favorite of there's is but it would be between Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream. I can't wait for there next album. My all time favorite PT song right now is Don't Hate Me off of Stupid Dream that song has so much atmosphere that's one of things I love about the band.

One should not look much further than Coma Devine for a glimpse at the band's earlier material. A great compilation album of their first 6 years - Stars Die - has just been released as well. Overall the earlier material is less about song structure and more about experimentation and is as satisfying of not more so than their later efforts. That said, Stupid Dream and Recordings are both phenomenal, and Lightbulb Sun is great as well, but falters on such tracks as the aforementioned Four Chords (which is just a banal single as far as I am concerned, and apparently SW as well, though I do not agree with his dislike for The Rest Will Flow).
If you do purchase Lightbulb Sun, try and find one with the extra CD which is very worthwhile indeed.

Sorry if I sounded a little pretentious with the Four Chords bit.

I got Stupid Dream from www.theendrecords.com for $11 with no shipping costs. If you don't know about this store you should make yourself aware right now. I do must of my cd shopping from them now. If you can't find what you're looking for there, don't worry. They are constantly re-stocking stuff as it sells out, so just keep an eye on the site untill it comes back in stock.

No kidding! That's my favourite too. I especially adore the saxophone (isn't it saxophone) section.

I'm pretty sure that PT is not a band one would listen for a few weeks and then forget it, I think this is a band one either loves or dislikes/hates. Since I got Stupid Dream it has been in the same pile with Ulver's Peridition City, In the Woods' Strange In Stereo, Opeth's albums and other similar records and that's the pile that occupies my cd-player the most, especially in the nighttime.

I have:
Recordings
Lightbulb Sun (2CD version)
Stupid Dream
Signify
The Sky Moves Sideways
Voyage 34
On the Sunday of Life

And I want more!!
I've downloaded a few other songs until I can find the other albums (it's hard for me to mail-order), but don't worry I'll have them all at some point!!

Does someone happen to know, if Steven Wilson is related to Damian Wilson? Might they be brothers? Damian is known as a vocalist in Arjen Lucassen's various projects.

I'm almost positive that they're not related, as something like that would have probably come up before, though it would be sorta cool if they were related.

I love the track 'Lightbulb Sun'.

The lyrics are so simple yet deep and quite emotional.

I'm quite impressed!:)
