I stumbled across two of these mics. They're not too expensive and supposedly are best for pianos and acoustic guitars. Is it even worth it to try these things as overhead mics?
I never heard an Okatava mic, but I heard good things about them. I think the MK012 is good for Overhead and acousic stuff.
But beware, I read that there are fake Oktava mics around! http://oktava.tula.net/fake/
If anyone cares, I a/b'd them against my small-D condensers and the Oktavas sounded like shit, like they were inside a cardboard box. No surprise there. Maybe I'll memo Bob Rock so he can use them on the next Metallica album.
I've never heard anything but good things about Oktava mics so that sounds weird, either there's something wrong with em or maybe you got a hold of some fake ones

Well i did some looking online and from what I read and saw, the fake ones look different and these two were not fake. Granted, that's according to some online crap I found somewhere.
Even so, these are pretty low end mics, like around 100 US dollars. Supposedly the high end ones do in fact sound good....Additionally, I only tried them on overheads, and apparently they're for use with piano and acoustic guitar. Still, they got a pretty boxy sound thats no bueno for cymbals.
