Ok, so who's even heard of this band? Or remembers how darned good they used to be (or bad, if that's your opinion)? JayKeeley was amazed the other night when I played him their 1988 classic Thundersteel - a very little-known European-styled speed metal gem. Well?

Sorry Liz, I loved this band, especially back in the day. Mark Reale was always an vastly underrated and unnoticed shredder IMO. Hell, I even liked their last album - Through The Storm - which most "critics" slammed.

I'm telling you guys, if there is anyone with an appreciation for old metal that simply rules, you need to track down copies of Thundersteel, and Night Breaker.

Papa, Riot's last album, Through The Storm, is pretty darned good shredder hard metal.

They're as great as ever, maybe even in their best period, with DiMeo on vocals.

Great song and album, nothing more left to say! ;)

I wouldn't call him a shredder, since that term is most often associated with mindless fretboard masturbation. He's not THAT technical, although he has very tough licks. He's IMO most of all - melodical!

Who in the world cares about what critics have to say?!
Most of them are good-for-nothing wannabe musicians, so they use that "vocation" of theirs as an exhaustion vent for their frustrations...
Anyone into classic hard rock and heavy metal and half a brain should like this album...

Fire Down Under and Thundersteel = their two best albums, different style each one, but divine and classic. They are making good albums now, but Mark Reale should sometimes forget that damn Spotlight Kid riff, and try to write something different.

Thunderstell and the follow-up were amazing ... real shredding .

They reminded me of Painkilller era Priest and I hear a lot of Riot in some Iced Earth songs.

Great band if somewhat inconsistent.
