OMG Falconer in a mini commercial!!!!!

Yes, trapping wild animals for personal amusement is so super cool!

I figured someone would come along and say that. I won't get too deeply into specifics. But, if you were to understand the mortality rate of many of the hawks, falcons, eagles and owls in the wild you would understand they have very slight chance of surviving. EVERY bird that I actively practiced falconry with was trained to be a stronger, more proficient hunter and was RELEASED back into the wild. I looked at every "relationship" with the bird as an incredible opportunity to be a part of something many of us know nothing about. It was always very fulfilling to see a bird released back into the wild knowing it had a much better chance to survive and possibly reproduce.

The bird that you see in the photo was with me for two years. He was released back into the wild in western Colorado. His name was "Trooper." When I trapped him he was extremely under-weight. When he flew from my fist for the last time he was fat and strong.

I would like to repeat myself.

Super cool.

Yes, nagging and knocking other people and what they do without knowing the actual situation behind it is so super cool as well.

You wanna whine about shit like that, go talk about the scumbags who abuse dogs and cats (and other pets) every single day in the USA. Falconers, as far as I'm concerned, are rarely responsible for mistreating the birds, but I feel like you didn't know that. :)

I know enough about it. I consider it an unethical activity.

And as a rescuer of many cats, and dogs, as well as rescuing injured falcons, hawks, and other wild animals, yeah I know a little. I'm a vegan, and I do not support the use of animals for entertainment. I do not support catching wild birds, so that you can use them for your personal amusement.

Gotcha. Didn't know that, so I take back what I said. Still think Falconers seem to have a certain "code of conduct" towards the animals they work with, and most of the times, the birds are treated well. (when it comes to falconers)

Also, I fail to see how mentioning you're a vegan adds anything to your post, but whatever. I just don't get why vegans always make it a point to show the world they are vegans, and 90% of the times (not that it was your case), they're VERY condescending about it.

If it's a thread on the ProgPower forums, someone will find a way to turn it into an argument.

LOL!!!

I don't eat Falcons, either, though! :P

Decidedly NOT vegan, however. And no, I'm not about to get into a pointless argument about why I'll eat one kind of meat, but not another.

Back on the topic of the commercial - a few people have told me they've seen it in theaters. I guess it airs prior to Sherlock Holmes starting? Anyone here seen the commercial in movie theaters yet?

Thanks PETA. Since you decided to impose your beliefs and values on other people in this thread, I'm going to impose mine. There's no such thing as a vegan. Your face when all the fruits you eat came from the pollination of "exploited" commercial honey bees, the shampoo you shower with or the glass you use to look through things containing cow by products, etc (fact). Your face when veganism forces farmers to destroy naturally occuring vegetation so that they can grow vegetables for our own consumption, which therein kills all the wildlife that depends on that natural vegetation. By supporting this process, you kill 25% more animals than actually eating meat (fact). Your face when academic, peer-reviewed evidence for plants possessing feelings and emotion gets released (another fact).

Also when you say that you do not support the use of animals for entertainment, does that mean you are against pets? Domesticated animals that could not survive in nature being kept as pets is "unethical"?

You're allowed to hold your contradicting, illogical ethical codes all you want. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but don't force them down other people's throats. You're not as holy as you think you are.

As long as the dude actually takes care of the bird, meets its requirements so that it can sustain itself and live the way it is supposed to live I think the bird couldn't care less that it's being used for someone's "entertainment."

I think Stefan has some publishing rights. Which is great, as it means the band will see some money. But it is more likely that you are correct and Metal Blade has the rights.

Unfortunately Metal Blade is notorious for taking revenue streams from almost all avenues of a band when it comes to the smaller acts. With the larger ones like Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth etc, they do licensing deals in which the bands retain their publishing so that if they received an opportunity such as Falconer's, they'd see all the mechanical/publishing money from it. That being said, the company may have advanced the band directly a "song placement" fee. This could have been a decent amount of money.
