Before I can make a recommendation, I need to know exactly what songs you heard...

Indeed. This is something that must be taken slow Devying into things too quickly can be dangerous (so can bad puns :D ). I started with Ocean Machine, I think it’s a good album to start with his music because it sets best what I think he does best, atmosphere. Move onto anything after that it doesn’t matter for two reasons, I think Ocean Machine is the best and also all his work is amazing. I wasn’t planning to go to ProgPower when I heard Opeth wasn’t playing there, but when he filled the void I was back in. To make a long story medium length, I love Devin Townsend’s music.

I was wondering what everyone meant by SYL, hehe. What's Devin's connection to them? Or are they just similar?

He basically is Strapping Young Lad, wrote the shit, produced it, sings it, and plays guitar. Oh! And for the second album City, he acquired the talents of one Gene Hoglan. Heavy is THE word to describe SYL.

Devin Townsend is the man. Everything he does is gold. I'm slowly getting my hands on all of Devy's stuff. Christeen + 4 song EP is in the mail! Thinking of getting Ass Sordid Demos as well. Anyone know what Soilwork's Natural Born Chaos is like? Devy produced it. I was thinking of getting it just because of that.

Just got my mate on to them. Took a while at first. He got into City first then the rest of SYL. I think he likes all of it now.

By the way, there is a Devin Townsend forum hosted here at UM just in case you didn't know.

If you're expecting something like a Devin Townsend album- don't.

Soilwork are more melodic Swedish death/rock and nothing like Townsend.

I should have said it a bit differently. I kinda know what it is like. I have heard bits and pieces of it on the radio and I like bands like In Flames and Children of Bodom. I really like Devin's production and I was hoping that it would put the album above others in the same genre.

You can kinda hear devins production on the album. But it doesn sound like devin, it sounds like Soilwork.. But the production is Awesome, and devin helps witht the vocals here and there.. It's a good album...
