Ya, thats all i listen to is opeth. I always have blackwater park in my cd player, or another opeth cd
Yeah, but you don't count, because you're a god-boy.
I believe Trapped lost this argument
I didn't even realize that this became an arguament, but now that you've notified me of the fact.... right! You're fucked!
It is very sad if you limit yourself to opeth... for opeth isn't the end of the earth, opeth is not perfection. I like opeth alot, Still Life is never far from my player, but it is simply sad to think that someone is PURPOSELY missing out of some great music by limiting themselves due to blind love.
Now, to turn this into LESS of an arguament, i shall actually try to be helpful and constructive for once, as what this guy has said has really baffled me into odd confusion:
If you like the 'folk' element of Opeth, then you should check out:
Days of the new - Days of the new. Basically, Dotn I is metal on acoustic guitars, really cool DEEP stuff, really hard hitting and truthful lyrics. And what can i say about a man with a voice like this at the age of 16?? Jesus fucking christ! He has an amazing voice.
The Tea Party - Splendor Solis. Middle-Eastern tinged rock, kindof like an expansion and continuation of Led Zeppelin's Kashmere at times. At times, i guess you could say they are like Led Zeppelin, but with Jim Morrison on vocals, Jeff Martin has got an awesome voice, soooo deep.
Ulver - Kveldssanger. An ever changing black-metal outfit... guess what? The whole album is on acoustic guitars, 100% clean, and the vocals are amazing, ranging from gregorian-esque chanting, to instrumental harmonized ooh's and aah's.
In Flames - The Jester race. Mixing gothenburg metal with acoustic-folk passages, what can i say? Classy stuff.
If you like the many moods that opeth creates, then you should check out the following SONGS:
Dreadnaught - Flowers. This is my favourite song by ANY band. Ignore what the band is doing thesedays, and get this song. Totally amazing stuff, 100 times better than anything that opeth have ever done, mixing between acoustic/electric, and clean/growled, and he has a much better clean voice than mikael on early opeth.
Dimmu Borgir - Mourning Palace. Admittedly, i don't have much love for black-metal, but every time i hear this song, i understand what BM is about... and i actually catch myself growling, screaming and choking along in time with Shagrath's cat-squeals. Really, really moody song, and it goes through heaps of changes, not really a typical BM song.
Vast - Touched. I'm sure you've heard this song... it is the theme from 'Angel', very 'The Tea Party' actually. Folky/eastern rock. Really deep, sad stuff...
Strapping Young Lad - Room 429. A cover of the Cop Shoot Cop song... really awesome, intense is all i can say. Especially when he gets to the 'if living is for learning, then dying is forgetting' section.
Days of the new - Dancing with the wind. From Dotn III, this song is very close to the early style of the band, with typical Meeksian lyrics "If joy awakened the land, time would have no purpose."
More:
The Tea Party - Halcyon Days, Samsara, Alarum, Innana, Walk with me.
The doors/Days of the new - The end. The doors, but with Travis Meeks from Dotn on lead vox. OOooohhh... this is intense stuff. I love the original and morrison, but MAN can meeks groan.
There is more, but i'm only going to bother unless you are actually interested NovemberFrost, or any of you other 'Opeth Groupies' with an affinity for the leper of closed mindedness and lack of Musical Variety....!!
