I've had this record almost since it was originally released and every now and then I put it on my player and it's still so fucking amazing piece of art. Mikael had great voice on this, much higher than later records and the production is perfect.

Yea, a great album. Favorite song would be the twilight is my robe, somewhere around the 6th minute i think is :hotjump: and apostle in triumph.

i'm starting to think this way about all opeth really. i used to appreciate 290485 different sections in songs but i'm becoming more and more picky about the natural flow of songs as i get older. opeth are cut and paste.Erik said:

It is definitely Opeth's best release. I can't even listen to the other releases anymore, with the exception of a few songs, to be honest.

I'm not going to deny that sometimes taking a half hour to expand on a single theme produces better results at holding your interest than something that goes through constant changes, but yes, that is lunacy.
Yeah, I'll continue to defend them, but measuring anything besides drone against them is ridiculous.
