Opeth reviewed in RollingStone magazine

Those monkey fuckers.

Nice that they focused on positives in text, but why only three stars? Ah, who gives a fuck.

Glad to see some press tho. I must admit I like the adjectives the writer choose.

Corporate mags still suck tho.

Surely this most certainly signifys the death of Opeth as an underground metal band...

It seems like that they were reviewed on a strictly death metal kind of context, as it doesn't give much detail about the soft-heavy transitions. Still it kind of disappoints me to see yet another mag insulting Opeth with a fraction of a page.

It was a pretty good review, though. Everything there only got 2-3 stars. Weird rating system.

its because the other bands are not well known, thats why they get 2 or 3 stars, if Eminem recorded himself having a shit and released it, itd get top marks from that stupid magazine, to them its "It doesnt matter about your talent, Its how famous you are"

I'm pretty sure the whole "best Swedish-Uruguayan" comment is totally tongue-and-cheek. A three out of five (and it IS out of 5) is a very decent score, and I've seen bigger releases get far less. Sure RollingStone is a mainstream magazine, but they do have some great articles and interviews in it sometimes.

The Phish article is pretty cool and comprehensive, but its not geared towards their die-hard fans (i.e. a listing of the top 5 shows they've done, etc. but there are a lot of cool pictures).

I'm not pleased with their review, but with modern technology having eliminated many of the barriers of access and exposure to non-mainstream artists, the word "underground" is now an antiquated term IMO...

Nope. I was in FYE at the mall yesterday and Morningrise was playing. (No joke. it was funny to see the expressions on people's faces when the vocals on Black Rose Immortal came in  )

Morningrise? Playing at a mall? On overhead speakers?
