...is what I'd say if I was a complete moron with no musical taste. :D

But now that I've got your attention, I just got My Arms Your Hearse. It's fucking awesome, but I don't think it's as good as Still Life or Blackwater Park. What do you guys think is the best of the three?

THAT'S IT! NO MORE BEST ANYTHING. I love it all, man...it's all a big fat tie for me!

Hey dude, i think the best opeth album between the 3 last ones is blackwater park. This album is just incredible: opeth is more performant, as anyone gets better on his instrument with time and practice, and, i think the riffing is crazy!!! i mean that it's original on every album, but on blackwater park, there is something different... the ''recipe'' of the riffings is as something no one never developped before.

Now, for my favorite opeth album, it is morningrise, followed by blackwater park, then orchid, still life, my arms your hearse.

Anyways, if anyone wants to email me, my email is:

Actually, I think MAYH is Opeth's best album. This is for a variety of reasons, it's the most varied, it has the best flow as an album, it has the most memorable moments (IMO) and it just keeps going seamlessly without ever repeating itself - I think it's the most deep and progressive... but... I didn't come to these conclusions until over ONE YEAR after buying it myself. It took, needless to say, some time for me to fully appreciate it. So, as of right now, anyways, I think it narrowly edges Morningrise and Still Life as my favourite album with Orchid a tiny step down and Blackwater Park a further step down.

I've said the same thing about BWP many many times now, but basically, I think the first 4 tracks are Opeth rockin away at 100%, the beginning of Dirge for November is really cool, then the middle section shows little change and gets kinda dull and repetitious, and Funeral Portrait is also kinda straightforward (The solo is cool but again, it shows less variety than most Opeth tracks). It's the first time I've been able to spot a comperably "weak" point on an Opeth album.

Then again, it took me a year to realize MAYH was my favourite, so you never know what I may just not quite have "gotten" yet...

I can't tell from one day to another which album is going to be my favourite. Morningrise is always hard to beat, it's a notch higher than the rest for me. But when I start going through the songs of the other albums in my head... man o man they're so good!
As it is now, MAYH may be the runner up. When and Demon of the Fall are just incredible and the whole album is so alive.
I'm getting more and more into Blackwater Park, Still Life is awesome, and Orchid is different, more raw and brutal from all the rest, which makes it hard to compare. But it is also my favourite on certain days.

Orchid is darker?
Sorry but I have a hard time seeing that. Maybe in the instruments? No, not that either...
The more I think about it, the more I feel that they are all very dark. Maybe MAYH and Morningrise are the darkest to me.

Don't forget the "birds of the sun" :)

What makes no sense? I think its fair 2 say, your favourite is not neccesarily their best is it? U could be talking about their best musically or lyrically, and ur favourite could in theory be niether of those. I mean it's likely 2 b one, but I just thinking trying to choose one album or song above all others is stoopid cos there are parts of each album I like and parts of each i dislike. Made myself clearer?

As of today - Blackwater Park.

But, it was my 1st. Now that I have all Opeth albums, only time will tell. My guess is at the end of ??, all of their albums will be on the same level.

I totally agree. In time you may come to realize that MAYH is THE Opeth album (if you are a prog freak like me and hoser anyway). Keep listening, you'll get more and more into over the coming (cumming?) months.

For me BWP was a bit of a disappointment cuz it is more repetitive than the previous two but I still think it's by far the coolest release this year, and besides, I think Leper alone was worth the coin I invested in the album.

There's just something about MAYH.. what is it? Oh yes, it's FUCKING INSANE! :)

cheers
