Original Dokken Lineup Reunites!! (Yes WITH Lynch!)

Classic Lineup Of DOKKEN Announces Only U.S. Reunion Show

"...The classic lineup of DOKKEN will play its only U.S. reunion show on September 30 at Badlands Pawn Guns Gold And Rock 'N' Roll in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The concert will be a warm-up gig for the band's six-show Japanese run dubbed "Unleashed In The East"...."

Don's voice is nowhere near its prime any longer, but its also better than it has been in quite a few years now. The thing I'd be concerned with is that Lynch can barely play his solos even remotely as well as he used to. I admit I'd probably go to see them though regardless, it's freaking Dokken after all.

I saw Lynch Mob 4 years ago, and Lynch sounded pretty good then so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

That's one instance, there are countless others where his phrasing is worse than Lil Wayne's on a crack bender, and he flubs note after note. Jeff plays Lynch's own stuff better than Lynch has in years.

That is bad news indeed. I thought he sounded pretty good 4 years ago, but then again that was 4 years ago wasn't it? If he hasn't been practicing then he could lose it quickly. I wonder if the Dokken tour in Japan will get bad reviews now.

I love Dokken as much as anybody did back in the 80's, but Don's voice is shot...gone...cu put. He can bring in the best musicians in the world and his voice still won't change. Maybe he should have taken better care of himself.

well, Lynch may not be the shredder he once was ( I have a feeling he's not actually interested in that style of playing anymore), but the last Lynch Mob tour I saw this year was phenomenal, in no small part due to the super-solid Oni Logan though.
Last Lynch Mob album and last George Lynch solo album (with excellent singer from Tribe of Gypsies) are both excellent though. For songs, not so much for guitar heroics though.

Don's voice isn't quite what it was in the 80's, and it did take a horrendous down turn in the 2000's, however, "shot" is the absolute last word I would use to describe his voice as of right now:

Sorry man that is pretty shot to me. He just cant hit anything close to high, he goes low on a few, drowned out by the drunks in the audience too cmon!!

Jeff will help but he would be better off with backing tracks, just saying

Hey man Its cool if you want to make excuses for him, after the last few shows I have seen Don sing, I cannot do that any longer . I have hung out with the guy a few times and he has been nothing but a class act and very cool but from from few shows as of late seeing some of the videos other than this , its just bad....very bad....

From the clips I watched, Pilson and Mick are the only two that got the memo that this was a live show and not a sound check. Don and George both appear completely disengaged.

Oh, and Don sounds awful, but that's been the case for years.

A live show, yes, but a rehearsal gig, not a full-fledged performance gig, so in a way, it was a bit of a glorified soundcheck. If anything, he's smart for not pushing himself at a rehearsal.

Wow, now THAT is some serious excuse making. Tell that to the crowd who, in most cases, traveled in from some distance to make this show. Tell that to the folks who paid good money to see that show.

I'd like to know how explaining the basic circumstances is "excuse making".

Merely that saying that this is a "rehearsal" show somehow gets Don and George off the hook for a pretty shoddy performance. These guys are professionals, and have been touring for years albeit separately. To get up on stage in front of an eager audience and act completely disinterested is flat out unprofessional. Mick and Jeff certainly don't look like they are "rehearsing".

Oh, I agree it doesn't excuse them not making the effort, especially Don, but I was just explaining why Don didn't sound as great, that it was down to that and not him being incapable. He also did injure his voice around the time of the show, so an all the wiser move to lay it back if you ask me.

I actually gave up on his voice years ago. He just does not have the range he used by a wide margin. I'm OK with that. My beef was the overall lack of energy or enthusiasm more than anything. I don't expect Don to hit the same notes he used to, but I do expect him to act like something more than a mannequin on stage. Same goes for George.

Did you happen to see clips of the surprise Ratt (minus Blotzer) reunion on the cruise recently? Now THAT is what I expect to see! Dokken could learn a thing or two from them.
