OSI:Blood

I stole it from the internet.

It's interesting. Overall it's great, but maybe per-song it's lacking. The production is really spectacular and it's a great listen, but there's a few parts here and there that I KNOW I've heard on some Chroma Key albums before. Some other uninspired sounding parts.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Gavin Harrison is a big step up from Portnoy nonetheless.

My impression of Mike Portnoy
< drums are playing >
"Hey everyone, look at me"
< plays some more >
"Everyone, your not looking! Over here! Look at me!"
< flips the beat >
" Did you guys hear what I just did? Everyone? HEEEEY"
< raises drum stool up high >
"HEEEEEEEEEEY, look I'm playin the drums. GUYS? EVERYONE?"
< Does poor backing vocals, complete with tech to swing the boom mic for him >
"Did you hear me? Everybody!!!!!!"
< stands while playing >
" NOW YOU HAVE TO SEE ME! EVERYONE listen to meeeeeee"

That summarizes it pretty well.

On "Free", I liked the electronica driven songs better (which are basically Chroma Key songs), but this time around, the heavy Matheos hitter are the better ones. But another very good album overall.

And when MC Portnoy's complaining about Kevin Moore (<3) being a selfish, stubborn band Hitler, then that's the definition of irony right there.

not feeling it too much.

mostly because of Jim. Seems like he's completely out of ideas guitarwise. All the riffs are some boring, remedial nu-metal djent djent stuff.

I would much prefer a chroma key album with gavin on drums, I would probably love the album if it had no guitars.

Still absolutely love the first one though.

I hope Kevin releases something along the lines of "Dead Air For Radios" (with Gav on drums) once again... but I love every CK album.

Mesmerizing voice is mesmerizing.

Yeah, the riffs are the part that really feels lacking to me. The contrast between Matheos' metuhllllll riffs and Moore's softer parts doesn't feel coherent. That somewhat "industrial" digital distortion sound he's been bringing up more and more just doesn't jive.

The first OSI album is incredible and I still listen to it on occasion, tbh I'm barely familiar with the second, maybe heard it once when it came out...

Spot on. And IMO on "Free" the balance, was absolutely there.

The riffs are very stripped down on "Blood" yet I enjoy the opener, 'False Start' and especially the kinda ridiculous "Be The Hero". It's mostly the Vocals that make it in the end.

Portnoy's a great drummer, granted, but he stays pretty much steady through his career. I don't hear him switching up new styles much, which is disappointing because I'm sure he could. It just all sounds like Portnoy.

And also, I didn't know the Office put out a new album, I MUST buy it. Even before listening to it. Who produced this one?

on some of those jam tracks on the LTE song he plays some grooves that are prety funky and very un-portnoy.

I think he could play a lot more like that if he wasn't trying to be the dream theater guy all the time.
right now he's like right under lars as my most hated musician though.

Funny how no one's brought up the Akerfeldt sung track.

I guess because everyone else agrees it's boring and doesn't fit in am i rite
