Disclaimer: I am a TOTAL loser.

So I love Star Wars, particularly John Williams' scores. However, I've always wanted to hear what the prequel soundtracks would have sounded like had they been recorded in 1980. I miss that vintage sort of sound where the horns sound like shit (in a good way), particularly in Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.

So for kicks, I looped a track from the Episode I score through my TS9 (2x, one for each channel) and mixed it in,with compression. The result was pretty cool. It's not the same, but that little distortion gives it an old school "at the movies" feel, and it was fun to fuck with.

I'd post it for you but (a) no one here probably cares anyway, and (b) the greedy bastards at Lucasfilm -- who consider Metallica's Napster fiasco a step in the right direction -- would probably sue my ass for everything I own.

For the record, I used Massey's Tape Head plugin on PT along with a little eq and it worked great. I tested it on Anakin vs. Obi-Wan, which is an Episode III piece that borrows some riffs from The Duel (The Empire Strikes Back) and it sounds fkn bad-ass, straight outta 1980!

I always thought the Star Wars scores were a little overrated... then again, I'm comparing to the wonder that is the first Batman movie intro song...

I don't know about overrated, John Williams is one of the best and most successful movie scorers of all time...also, I grew up in Boston, when he was a resident conductor for the Boston Symphony Orchestra....I saw him a few times with my parents...amazing stuff
