OT: Atlanta now home to world's largest indoor aquarium

Wow...one more reason not to visit Chattanooga!

(Chattanooga - about 90 miles from Atlanta - has an aquarium that is one of the city's big deals, but like many of Chattanooga's big deals, is usually bested by someone else close by!)

"Oh, darn! Now __________ (enter name of nearby city) has an aquarium! We'll have to build a bigger one!"

BTW, if you're planning on visiting the Georgia Aquarium, pick up tickets in advance. They've been selling very well. Of course, for PPUSA 7 we're talking 10 months into the future, but they'll probably still be scarce.

I'm definitely going to have to check that out - whale sharks are among my favorite animals, and that will be as close as I can get until I can afford a trip to the tropics to swim with them :)

SWEET! I'll definitely have to check that out, while I'm up there for PPVII! That will be one more business that wonders why they have so many people wearing black t-shirts visiting around mid Sept.! :p

The new aquarium is easily accessible via MARTA rapid-transit from the Peachtree Center station, so anyone staying at the 'usual' ProgPower hotels should have no problem getting there...it's only four stops south on the train.

any sperm whales ?

Hmm, nope. But beluga whales, whale sharks (only ones in captivity), hammerheads, Australian leafy sea dragons, and lots more.

http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/exploreTheAquarium/index.aspx has info on the exhibits.

Whale Sharks are so commnplace. What I'd rather see are the Warhks

Thanks for the post. I am not a big fan of animals or sea creatures but this looks like it could be fun! The whale sharks have spots -EWE!! That's kind of gross :yuk:

I'm looking forward to this, I'm even debating a separate Atlanta trip just to see it.

Either that, or you'll all be blessed with my daughter at this year's PP. Too many things to do and see in Atlanta not to have a family vacation there.

It's rumored that there will be a dunk tank over the Hammerhead shark habitat just for the 2006 ProgPower weekend where captured PPVII bootleggers can get dunked (and videotaped) by any band who was being taped. Band members are free to distribute the video amongst friends as long as they don't sell it to any person or franchise, such as "Faces of Death". ;)
