Always Somewhere!
Whoo hoo! Got a new hard drive in, recovery cd's installed, dumped Norton (though not sure of all that root drive stuff) but never activated it on new hard drive! Installed Mc Afee, online and it's all so far so good!!

Can't wait to wake up have my coffee, check my mail, boards, etc. etc. etc.

See ya'll soon!!!:kickass:

Most official wb to the insaniquarium!

And good you got rid of Norton it sucks big time, I have changed to McAffee since 2001 and never look back. I also can recommend AD-Aware SE as the spyware lookup and recently installed AOL Active Security monitor and works dandy to keep my defenses up-to-date.

Good to see you back up and running KB. I was wondering how long it was going to be. I was getting worried. :)

Welcome back KB!!! Hope you got everything worked out. I know my computer slowed down quite a bit with Norton 2006.:erk: I'll be dumping it in the future as well. I have heard a bunch of people having problems with the latest version.

I have a free license for F-Secure Internet Security from my university but that eats up a lot of RAM and is just too clumsy for my tastes. I guess it's the same thing with most of the big commercial ones. Now I'm using Avast! Antivirus and Sygate Personal Firewall, which are both free and relatively lightweight. No virus/trojan shit so far. Needless to say, I am NOT using Internet Explorer...:puke:

Welcome back... now take care of those pics :saint:

Glad it all worked out

Belated w/b K-Beast!

I'm using NOD32 on my desktop at home, and PC-Cillin (because it was free for 15 months) on my laptop. Neither have the large footprint & extra non-essential b.s. that Norton has. Quite happy with both....

You are a VERY BAD KITTY!

:err: I'll getcha back sometime

see what happens when you take a vacation away from me....that'll learn ya!

THANK YOU ALL for your kind words, thoughtfulness and friendship! I pick up the corrupted harddrive from Geek Squad today, hoping they were able to pull some pictures, docs or music files off of it. *crosses fingers*

I despise the GEEK Squad......
I should have had you just send that drive to me.

While I was out of work, I did pick up some consulting hours with a guy who started a busineess like the Geek Squad LONG before (2 years) they ever appeared anywhere. I hope they don't sting you too bad with the bill!
I've always thought the the GS thought they were hot shots, when I've had to "fix" things they messed up....

You really can't say how much you can miss the internet unless you had to miss your PC a week or 2 !! Welcome back KB !!!!
I kinda can avoid things like this becouse my daughter recently got a new laptop, wich is an excellent backup for me when my PC decides to quit :p

That is right. It wasn't that long ago I had to go and format a hard drive due to Windoze problems. I can't really blame mine on my security software though.

Welcome back Kitty !!

Glad you got everything worked out Kitty. Sad thing about computers is they only stay in working order for a short period. I've only had minor problems in the last couple years....knock on wood :)
