OT: Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett dies

shit, 60's a pretty young age to go. Atleast the man left behind a hell of a lotta great stuff.

I was never a big fan of Barrett-era Floyd (too psychedelic for my tastes) but its clear that his influence on the rest of the members carried through to their classic material.

Considering his ongoing mental instability, I'll echo Rose's sentiments and say I hope he's at peace now.

That would explain why I heard "Shine On, You Crazy Diamond" like five times today.

What a shame - Floyd is one amazing band, and I think he fueled a lot of their creativity.
+1

Right on - this is the same thing I was getting at. I suppose I do like some of the Barret stuff though.

While I was in Driver's Ed this morning, we had 104.3 on (classic rock station) and I was pissed off, because I thought I'd be driving to some Pink Floyd, but no. They had to be gay about it.

yes it is...

I for 1 don't care at all for Sid's music, he may have influenced some of there early work, but Gilmore was truely the saving force behind them. If they didn't get rid of Sid, the band would have faded away along with the rest of the psychedelic acid rock/pop groups of the 60's.
