Howdy folks. It's been awhile since I've posted here, but I've been lurking. I've been going through a dry spell on all the boards I frequent.

I've been converting my vinyl to MP3 format and often come across a gem that I had not heard in a long time. One of those songs is Hold On, by Triumph (another of my favorite bands).

This song nails how I feel about music, and I'm pretty sure how most of you also feel. Here are the lyrics:

HOLD ON
Words and music by Rik Emmett

Music hold the secret,
To know it can make you whole
It's not just a game of notes,
It's the sound inside your soul
The magic of the melody
Runs through you like a stream
The notes the play flow through your head
Like a dream
Like a dream
Like a dream

I sing this song for the common man
For the people in despair
I bring my song into the world
And I sing it everywhere
The simple truth lies waiting here
For everyone to share
So hold on, and I will take you there
Hold on and I will take you there

The daily routine takes your soul,
Lost without a trace
It hold you down and turns you 'round
And puts you in your place
Another day, another dollar
Another pretty face
Another chance to lose yourself
In the endless race

CHORUS

Hold on, hold on to your dreams
Hold on, even though it seems
Everyone around you has their little schemes
Listen to your heart and hold on to your dreams

Can't you feel the magic
Feel it everywhere
Can't you hear the music
There's something in the air
There's a celebration
Deep within a song
Celebrate this feeling,
You know it can't be wrong

CHORUS

Caught up in routine,
You got to break it
Time won't wait for us,
We got to make it
Fate gives you the chance
You've got to take it
Take it

Hold on

I just thought I'd share that with you all.

No doubt, Frank! I LOVE that song! I'm lucky enough to have it on CD so it hasn't been so long since I've heard it.

Cool freaking song.

My old band did acoustic versions of that and Magic Power. Triumph had some really good hits, but suffered from sameness from album to album. A lot of bands in that time period put out an album each year with little differentiation and that may have kept them from gaining a larger following in the states.

I'm going to go dig out my Triumph GH disc now. Thanks for rthe reminder.

Triumph was awesome - :headbang:
In their period ranging from Aillied Forces through Never Surrender to Thunder 7 (flat out amazing album), I think there wasn't a clunker song on an album - they were all great.

Earlier on, it seemed that Emmett (genius) was more interested in the deeper stuff both lyrically and musically (flamenco guitar solos - HELL yeah) while Moore was more about the staight ahead rock and roll/lets have a prty type songs. But on the above three albums, they achieved synthesis in songwriting that made for some really solid and great material.

Sport of Kings was the deathknell however, as music going into the later 80s was changing and with more of an emphasis on truly radio friendly songs, real rock seemed to wane and with the success of a few songs (Just One More Night, etc...) that crossed over and were mainstream popular hits, I've always thought that Moore wanted to full bore pursue that (hence his usurping of the total direction of the band and Emmett's departure under VERY bad circumstances) while Emmett wanted to not go in the direction of 'what was popular and hot'.

Sad destruction of a great band. You can practially see the vivid difference in the two sides of Surveillance (the makings of a great album). Moore's songs are average/regular fare while Emmett really put together some truly outstanding songs on there.
