I just saw a video from the band Otep and it was pretty good. They have a girl lead singer who has a great voice/growl. Anyone else heard of them or know if the cd is any good?

As I said, the video was pretty good, maybe a used cd purchase.
On a side note, I saw a Down video on the program tonight, I had never heard them before,uke:

Like Otep, dont like Down??.....hmmmmm....thats strange....Otep sucks ass, down isnt great.....but compared to otep, I love them.
I've really only heard one song from each band, so I can't judge either fairly. I have heard a lot of people talking up Down, so when I saw the video coming up I paid attention. Needless to say I was very disappointed, boring monotonous numetal crap, at least Otep had interesting song structure and good charismatic vocals.

yeah, i find them annoying too...and interesting song structure?? Down nu-metal?? i think you have the two bands confused...Otep is useless nu metal, down is at least doing something somewhat different as far as todays standards go.

I don't think it's appropriate to talk of otep on an Opeth board. That's like calling Korn great on a Katatonia board, entirely wrong and uncalled for. Otep is one of the worst bands I've been unfortunate enough to hear, from their lack of musical talent, to their pathetic teen angst image and lyrics, they just scream flavor of the week (weak). Down isn't entirely bad, not good or really worth listening to much, but compared with otep, Down sounds like the band that is the salvation of music.

Whether Nile is truly interested is irrelevant. They kick ass and that puts them aeons ahead of Otep.
My 2p worth:
Otep aren't that bad, kind of a grind/nu metal crossover & they do it loads better than other female fronted bands (Kittie, Defenestrator, etc) Not anywhere near the same league as Opeth. But don't dismiss their influences just cos you don't like them (with regards to the ancients)
Down /are/ a joke, they seem to miss the mark of a good stoner metal band by aeons, the members should stick to their main (much better) bands. If you want decent stoner, listen to Kyuss or Cathedral, not some half arsed 'supergroup'

Well, thanks to all your glowing recommendations I bought the Otep cd today used (found it for $7). It's not great, but its not bad. I see the teen angst criticism, but they can get a good groove going, and I LIKE her voice. Before you jump to any conclusions, I am in my 30's.

Ummmm, no. Down isn't nu metal. Soulful bayou rock, reminiscent of Black Sabbath. It's cool if it ain't your bag, but please, it's hardly nu metal.
