Overated "Favourites"

the song I absolutely cannot stand of SymX..Masquerade..it literally gives me shudders and bad chills..as die hard a fan as I am of Symx..that song, is like a slow torturous death I am very sorry to say.
Most favorite songs still are King of Terrors, Fallen, The Odyssey, Through the Looking Glass, Inferno is really cool as well.

I dont understand, What type of production do you want?? MTV production??. The album is great, i think the only songs that sound better live are Candelight Fantasia and TDWOT.

Is MTV-hits-production the only alternative to SX-production? Just listen to "V" and you'll hear it's much better produced/arranged. I think DWOT's arr is too simple, the songs are great but that is a different aspect of it.
Example: "Of Sins And Shadows" is undoubtly a great song, great singing, great playing, great melodies, rhythms, solos etc. But there is nothing special to it. I think if they arranged it better, meaning you put a little more detailed thought into what instruments would fit the specific place, it would be better. There are no surprises; after you've heard the song a couple of times you've heard everything on it. Overral I think the quality of sound is not the best, it sounds too muddy for me.

I don't know if this was a good explanation of what I meant. I'm not saying the record is bad because the music material is great, just implying it could have been done better, not the performance, but the arrangement. A great example of this is the song "The Odyssey". Just think of how many small things there are in that song, how every time you listen you find something new that you didn't hear before.

I don't have any problems with the production, but I still can't get totally into Candlelight Fantasia or TDWOT. What the hell is wrong with me??

Short attention span? :err:

I don't think that there is even one of their songs that I don't like, even the much-maligned first album (which I thought was great when I first heard it and got hooked on Symphony X!). I don't think that Of Sins and Shadows is necessarily "better" or "worse" than any other of their songs. But it IS different from, say, Candlelight or Lady of the Snow. When I want crunch and thump, I'll listen to something like OSAS, and when I want something softer, I'll listen to something else. And when I want a longer, deeper experience, I'll listen to the whole album with all of the different songs.
Anyway, I don't think any of the songs are really over-rated, but I do think the first, self-titled release is under-rated (and Rod Tyler isn't really given his just due--I mean, come on, it's pretty hard to stand as an equal to Russell Allen!!!). Obviously, there is more that they can do with it with Russell on vocals, but it's still a great album, in my opinion.
Is there anybody else that heard Symphony X for the first time on the self-titled album? I would be interested to hear their opinions. For me, hearing them for the first time on that album I thought that they were great, and they just got better. It could be that I just didn't have to go back and hear it after I heard some of the later stuff and feel disappointed that it wasn't quite up to the later stuff. For me, Symphony X releases are great at their lowest, and incredible at their higher points.

SymX by far has more high points than low in their art, not many bands can come up with so many songs that arent just good, but brilliant. I truly can say I've not yet heard another ProgMetal band who i can say beats them. Maybe I'm just too picky, though I don't think thats a bad thing, but it's my opinion.

You guys have really good pionts but thats not what I really meant.

What I meant was not there "bad" songs. But songs that most people love and that you don't. For me it's Evelution. Everyone goes ape over that one. But I dont. Same with Sins and Shaddows

Yeah...Mate..Bet you do a great Steve Irwin impression..oh and btw..isnt it meant to be PRAWN..not shrimp..ya Yobbo!! ;) lol..ok enough Aussie coloquiolisms (is that how it's spelled  i dont know)

You see is aussie's say frigin instead of fricken.

@ the_santic_rabbit. I've got 2 things for ya'.
1. "frigin" classifieds
2. Rabbits are a big pest in Australia! MUSY KILL YOU~!!

@ silent Realm - are you a AFL person or a Rugby person?

You see, in QLD we call it GAY-F-L!

Uh, real mature hey.

Don't you reckon John Howard is a total tool?

O.K when did we get off of metal and onto politics..
But for the record..uhhh no i dont, I'm a liberal. And considering the other candidates to be backing, i just dont see the competition..but again, thats my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.

Ok then lets prevent this going into a political discusion. Remember the Bush Flame war.

btw, Simon Crean is also a tool and Kim Beasly is a bigger tool. I reckon Bob Carr should go into Federal.

I think, TDWoT`s production fit the songs well in my opinion, and i`m not so sure the album would`be soooo much better with a better production, though if it would..... :OMG:

My favorite songs are Candlelight Fantasia, The Accolade, Fallen, The Odyssey, DWoT, plus nearly every remaining Symx song :) .
