Though hardly deemd as "Metal" in any sense of the definition, the soundtrack for Pan's Labyrinth is utterly compelling in its ability to make even the happiest of people feel meloncholic. In that sense of the description, I find it to be very "metal". Just for the fact thats its so epic and inspiring. Any takers?

not rooly:

I haven't heard the soundtrack. I don't own many film soundtracks except for a few Zimmer's.
  • The Gladiator
  • The Lion King
  • American Beauty
  • Crimson Tide
First one rules.

I gotta see this film.

I didn't care much for two of the three Zimmer soundtracks I've heard (Beyond Rangoon and Black Hawk Down), but his score for King Arthur was pretty good. Lots of bombastic shit.

John Williams' score for Schindler's List is probably the biggest "downer" score I've got...

Oscars are for shit movies like Titanic etc... :)

btw, WRONG FORUM

Idiot... let's see howh many of the movies you like have won an Oscar, then you can take your foot and shove it in your mouth you cultureless moron.

I agree the Academy is fucked up sometimes. But saying all movies that win are automatically shitty is just beyond retarded. You lose.

Haven't heard it....Did it win the Oscar?

It was nominated for six oscars and won three of them. It won Best Achievment in Art Direction, Best Acievement in Cinematography and Best Achievment in makeup. It was nominated for, but did not win, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score), Best Writing (Original Screenplay) and best Foreign Language film (it's in Spainish).

It's true that winning an oscar doesn't make a movie bad. That's a ridiculous notion. It doesn't make a movie good, either. Case in point:

Titanic is a shit movie.

And not winning an oscar sure as hell doesn't make a movie bad.

As far as the OP's question is concerned, I haven't seen if and therefore haven't heard the music. But if it isn't metal... then it isn't metal. "Epic" doesn't make things metal.

So...... what exactly IS the point of the Oscars?

What is the point of giving out awards equally for shit and good movies?

No one ever said "equally", dumbass. Most of the awards given out are for technical achievments. The only ones that depend on how "good" the movie is are best picture, best director, best foreign lanuage film and to a lesser degree best origional screenplay and best adapted screenplay. Winning the award for best costume design does not mean the movie itself was any good.

Having said that, the winners are mostly deserving, but every year there are great movies that get snubbed and some that win awards they don't deserve.

To those who are emotionally crippled, yeah.

Nah, it's a shit movie to anyone who has any semblance of a brain and an appreciation for truly incredible cinema.

Also Pan's Labyrinth is a great example of contemporary magic realist cinema.
