Pantheist started as a musical concept in early 2000 in Belgium. After little experimenting with dark synth music at first, their attention turned to slow, dark metal. In November/December 2001 Pantheist entered the Templa Libitina studio of fellow doomster Stijn van Cauter from Until Death Overtakes Me and recorded with the assistance of a session bass player a first demo called `1000 years`.

The demo drew the attention of Finnish Firebox Records, who offered Pantheist a two-album deal. The band entered the studio in January 2003 for the recording of a first album called 'O Solitude'. Several live performances in Europe followed, with the likes of Morgion, Evoken, Mourning Beloveth, Skepticism, While Heaven Wept, Esoteric and Until Death Overtakes Me.

In May 2004 Kostas decided to move the band to the United Kingdom due to the geographical distance with the other band members. As in the early days, the band became again a twoman studio project, but Kostas and Nicolas saw soon two talented musicians join their ranks, namely Andy and Mark, at the time both in Esoteric. With this line-up, the band recorded ‘Amartia’ at The Lodge studios, Northampton. The album was released in April 2005 by Firedoom Music (Doom specialist label of Firebox) and took the band’s sound to whole new dimensions of oppressive, emotional music with a mystical atmosphere. After the recordings, the band’s line-up was bolstered with the addition of guitarist Ilia (Indesinence).

In June 2005, Sterghios joined Pantheist on drums. in July 2005, Pantheist entered The Lodge again to create two new lengthy compositions. At the same time, a cover of Katatonia’s ‘For funerals to come’ was recorded at Priory Studios, Birmingham and engineered by Greg Chandler. The tracks were released in addition to the band’s ‘1000 years’ re-mastered demo as well as a live video recorded in Belgium in October 2003. The result was the EP ‘The Pains of Sleep’, a very diverse yet coherent collection of tracks covering all stages of the band’s history.

Pantheist have renewed their contract with Firebox Records and their third album ‘Journey Through Lands Unknown’ is to be released in the November 2008 (Europe), December 2008 (USA). Also bands debut album O Solitude will be reissued in 2009 with new artwork.

I. The Exorcising the Funereal Tour aftermath

Pantheist have now returned home after a hugely fruitful tour with Skepticism and Ophis which took them across mainland Europe, with the band gracing for the first time countries such as Slovakia, as well as new venues in familiar countries (for example a church in Belgium). Pictures and other artefacts from the 'Exorcising the Funereal' tour have been added to the website and myspace site of the band.

II. Journey Through Lands Unknown released and available by the band
The 'Journey Through Lands Unknown' album is now officially released. Available via Firebox, Lethal Conflict, Plastichead, Play.com etc. It can also be bought from the band for the price of 12 euro (flat fee for world) using paypal, just follow the instructions on the myspace site and our official website.

III.T-shirts coming soon
We are aware that some of you have been expecting new shirts since the 'Exorcising the Funereal' shirts have all been sold out in the tour. We have tried to make this happen in December, but unfortunately our financial situation after the tour (and with the familiar end-of-year festivities coming up...) hasn't made this possible.
We apologize for the delay and promise that we have set ourselves a target to have new shirts ready by February. The idea is to create a multicolour design this time, something we haven't done since the 'Curse the Morning Light' shirts back in 2003!

IV. O Solitude reissue
There are plans to re-release our debut album O Solitude, which has been sold out for a while, in 2009 with completely new artwork. We will keep you informed through the website. Furthermore, we are currently in negotiations with Firebox records to have all our albums released on vinyl over the next two years. We will be keeping you informed about the progress on this.

V. Live gigs: UK and Finland
Although no specific dates have been booked yet, there are plans to play 3 gigs in Finland around the end of May. More information will be provided as soon as we can confirm venues. We are also currently looking into playing more UK gigs, any interested promoters can get in touch by email.
