This has nothing to do with Opeth but it’s (in a way or two) related to the band Tool and it has come to my awareness that many of you appreciate them so here it goes...

There have been a lot of mystical, geometrical, mathematical etc rumours around Tool’s Lateralus. And I found this new (to me at least) "thing" rather fascinating and I felt like sharing it… Well I quite recently got myself a copy of Aleister Crowleys "The Book of Lies". And for you who haven't read it or know what it is I’ll write down the books resumé…

THE BOOK OF LIES is a witty, instructive and admirable collection of paradoxes; however, it is not a philosophical or mystical treatise. Actually, its subtleties exhilarate. Scholars have said it is “stupendously idiotic and amazingly clever.” To endeavour to translate into definite terms Crowley’s aphorisms would detract from the value of the book. It is wiser for readers to make their own interpretation.

…taken right of the backside of the book. Anyway, after randomly reading chapters with all kinds of perplexing and “infinite-studying-requiring” phrases and paragraphs, I reached chapter 49, which was entitled “WARATAH-BLOSSOMS”. This 2-paged chapter is one of the few with a picture in it. And before I even read the chapter I was really astonished. Right before my eyes I saw the Parabola-Tool-Logo. The 7-edged pentagram… The sign of Babalon.

This appear somewhere in the beginning of the Parabola video. And this chapter claims that this pentagram is a symbol for the feminine and "OUR LADY BABALON". And my questions for you are (or if you have some speculations)... What is the feminine symbol doing the Parabola video? It must have some afterthoughts behind it. And who or what is Babalon? Those of you who haven't noticed this seven-edged pentagram check out the Parabola video.
Shalom...

Babalon is an Egregore of Thelema set forward in Liber AL vel Legis as was given unto the Magus Aleister Crowley by way of the intelligence of Aiwass. This event did take place in the Egyptian city of Cairo in the year of 1904.

basically, it's bullshit. Anyone who believes this crap is a moron, and fankly I'm not suprised that a pseudo-intellectual faggotry inducing band like Tool liked the ideas of Thelema.

Basically, "777" is indulgence. The first of the nine satanic statements is "Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence." Anton LeVay blatantly ripped off Aliester Crowley, as Aliester Crowley blatantly ripped of Zarathustra. Anyway, the lady in purple is represented by three sevens, in direct parallels with the anti-christ's three sixes. "666" is supposed to be the evil incarnate, and "777" is supposed to be evil IN man. So basically, Symbol of the Lady of Babalon is, "look at me, im a carnal sinner."

I didn't say Tool's music is bad, it's just their imagery and lyrical philosophies that hurt my head. Lateralus is a good album imo.

Well that I can understand, but I must say that the lyrics of Lateralus is great... Hope someone can second that.

I completely agree... anyone read a Danny carey biography? he is one weird, complicated man. all that philosophical and geometrical whatnot confuses me.
Really? He is so cool that he's one of the coolest musicians! All that philosophical stuff are awesome...imo

Danny Carey is a moron. He may sound smart, but his intelligence is skin deep. I think the old saying is very evident. "He knows a little about a lot."

thats pretty harsh man. have you met him? have you spoken to him i depth about the things your judging his intelligence on? he may well be a genius or a dropkick i dont know. im just saying judging someone you dont knows intelligence is unintelligent.

He uses the simple Murphy Theory. He gathers belief by sounding like he knows what he's talking about. It's a simple thing. Using statistics, definitions and obscure terminologies, people assume that it's true, just because they don't know that it isn't true. This works up to 90% of the time.

Lateralus is
1. a great album, musically.
2. a great puzzle or controversial point of discussion if it is not a puzzle.

What it is not
1. The greatest thing since sliced bread.
2. A secret message from beyond about the future or divinity.

that doesnt make him unintelligent. that makes him successful at deceit and good at judging how people act and react to information.
Exactly, like I've just done. There's no such thing as "the Murphy Theory." My last post was complete rubbish, there's no data that people believe good bullshit. It's just very easy to persuade people when sounding "official."

PS Although my post about the Lady of Babalon is true, feel free to verify.:goggly:

And you do? Like most celebrities, the only thing we know of them is what they choose to use as PR. Carey uses incomplete and contradicting equations and unoriginal philosophies as his PR. Is that supposed to reflect his personality? You'd think someone as intelligent as Carey would care. It's true, I've never met him, but from what I've read and heard, I have no need to. But I believe I've violated one of my creeds. Conversations about heresay are as annoying as they are redundant. Let's just agree to disagree?

If I died today, I would be a very happy man, so I do believe in who I am.

I wouldn't call Crowley's philosophy a rip-off of Zarathrustra; that would be a quite cursory reading of either one or both texts. If you're implying that Crowley's Will is comparable to Nietzsche 's Will to Power, then you're mistaken.

Also, it's "Aleister", not "Aliester".
