I've got super sweaty hands, and they just rape my strings. I know nicotine is responsible for the most of it but giving up is not an option for me at the moment. A little weight loss maybe?

Here's what I do:

- Always wash my hands each time before I play guitar. If I play for too long I even stop and wash them again.
- Always wipe the strings with a clean cloth during and after playing. After playing I wipe each string separately so I can also get any dirt under the string. I've been using this for quite some time and it turned out really useful for me, http://www.thestringcleaner.com/

A guitarist that I recorded sometimes ago had this problem....he played my Schecter, new strings, and after some days when I take out my guitars it was in unbelievable conditions......... the strings were completely blocked by the rusty....no way to do a bending because they didn't slide anymore on the key...
Anyway he solves the problem using Elixir strings, it seems they are more durable

Erkan uses Elixir's, I know he has this problem, but I don't know if that's why he chose the strings...

I'd think, if nothing else, you could where a glove and cut the fingers out (a thinner cotton glove would work well as it'd give you less friction on the neck... this would be good for recording anyways, dunno about live though.. :D

+1 to this advice, though I wouldn't really say I have this problem. Another benefit from washing your hands is you can definitely use the warm water whenever it's cold. I hate playing guitar or even PC games with cold hands.

Yeah man, I'll go run them under as warm as I can take water until my joints free up. Cold hands + guitar playing sucks!

I hate to preach but, why? Just stop smoking, after all sweaty hands are the least of your worries while you're puffing away daily.

I have these for my strings - keep them with my guitar at all times - in my case, on my desk. I wipe my strings after any prolonged use:

And I keep these to clean my hands prior and after playing - no moisturizers to coat the strings:

Ever since I my bone marrow transplant I'm a bit of a germ freak so I tend to have hand sanitizer with me anyways.

Is that String Cleaner thing actually any good? Coz it looks like a cheap infomercial product....

I guess it is like a cheap infomercial product, but still I find it convenient and faster than regular clothes for cleaning the underside of the strings which I've found out is as important as cleaning them on top.
