PCI card with very low latency

Hi there peeps,

I've been using a MOTU Ultralite firewire interface into a Mac Pro for about 4 years now and would like to upgrade to a PCI card. With the MOTU, everything runs stable with input/output latency at 6ms. Would it be right to assume that if I were to go the PCI card route, I would be able to achieve even lower input and output latencies and not experience any audio dropouts?

I'm using Lavry converters and at most record only 2 inputs at one time. Don't really need additional preamps and ADDA's.

What PCI card options should I be looking at?

Much appreciated if anyone could chime in.

Thanks.

I run everything through my converters and what I really need from the PCI card are Spdif, midi and headphone out options. Don't really need the additional ins and outs that RME offers.

RME seems to be the general consensus here. I've narrowed my options down to either the RME Raydat or the AIO since I really want to be make full use of my Mac's PCI express.

The Multiface II seems viable but I'm unsure of its connectivity. Its express card alone costs $499 and it runs a firewire cable.

Thanks for all the replies.
