I turned on my 5150 today and the volume was about 1/20th of it's normal volume. It still sounds like a 5150, but gets less volume than a 15 watt practice amp. Any ideas?

first try puting a cable from your send to receive on you fx loop. if that doesnt fix it then try replacing your preamp tubes (most likely the one closest to the power tubes if thats the problem) tell me how it goes

this is a very common problem with 5150s tho

Thank you very much. It is now midnight here in California and I am an idiot, but a happy one because I took your suggestion with the FX loop and it did indeed fix the problem, thing is I forgot to turn the volume down beforehand and now I'm quite sure my neighbors hate me a little more than they already did :D

yeah that's a common problem that I hate a lot, I don't know if newer 6505's have that as well.
It's a loop problem, if you leave the footcontroller plugged-in the sound is fine as long you don't activate the loop.
A goddamn fucking problem that appears after years of using, it's bad caps I guess.
