Pestilence - Resurrection Macabre guitar sound questions?

Thanks for the nice words, guys!

Pat uses his Steinberg, which has, I believe, EMG-89 in bridge position.

We tracked 4 guitars - 2x Valvestate (the tight bottom sound) + 2x Recto... or was it 5150?! I can't remember, sorry.

But Pat has this twangy sound to his playing style. The Steinberg maybe also sounds like that, but I think it has some kind of signature to it. He's an incredible rhythm guitar player! Trust me! Those 16th notes are IN THE POCKET! :)

Fucking lovely looking axe. Love the white and black one they did as well. Vito Bratta from White Lion played one :headbang:

Can you remember which one it was?

Care to share some drum info with us too? :)

Yes, 8100 it is. They're not built very well... I've broken 2 now. But they're pretty cheap 2nd hand, and although they'd never work in a live situation, they're pretty great in the studio, combined with a heavier and fatter sounding amp.

I nearly always track 4 rhythm guitars. It of course depends on what kind of music I'm working with. If I want a more "live" sound, I'd go for 2. And if I want a big sound, I sometimes go for 4 hi-gain + 2-4 crunch rhythm guitars that play different voicings on e.g. Telecaster or SG. But that's not very common in metal :)

The better the guitarist is, the less "chorusy" it's gonna sound. If the guitarists are not very good, it's gonna sound quite "flammy" and "chorusy", but that's sometimes very charming, too!
