Heaven and Hell
Same classic story, with both songs featuring angelic female vocals and haunting male vocals, but two very different sounding ways to tell the story (both are excellent, IMO). Which presentation do you like better to tell the story (Nightwish more operatic with Christine singing more than the Phantom or Iced Earth with a heavier, darker sound with the Phantom given more of the vocal lines)?

I voted for both because of obvious reasons: Iced Earth adapted their own concept from the original storyline, so they get kudos for originality. Nightwish took a classic and made it METAL!

Gotta love any classic song that's made METAL!!! :kickass:

IE's version is my favorite track from that whole album. It's a perfect blend. The way Christine gets very scary and sinister-sounding as she and the Phantom sing together... WHOAH what an evil chilling voice! Plus her almost-dissonant harmonies are so creepy. Beautiful voice. I'd want to hear her sing a whole album with Barlow. I mean it! That song perfectly examples what a band with a couple as singers should sound like. Neither's part overplays the other... both voices are incredible... both singers blend together for their layers of sound. If Iced Earth could have done a whole album for the Phantom of the Opera as a concept album.. SHIT HELLA YEAH!! Screw Paul Stanley.. I wanna see Barlow in Toronto at the Pantages! DAMNIT!

Hmm tough question! I think I'm going to go with Iced Earth's Phantom of the Opera though, because it's more of a standout track than Nighwish's. As much as I love Nightwish, Phantom of the Opera is not one of their stronger songs and is not really theirs, while Iced Earth's is one of the (if not the) best song on Horror Show.
